Before installing CFW?
Before installing CFW? –
What do you guys think is the possibilty of PS3s with CFW not being able to play upcoming games (infamous 2, uncharted 3. etc.). Do you think the games will be able to be patched (a la PSP)?
Why not, 3.55 games were patched to run on 3.41.
If you update to CFW you CAN go to ANY official firmware. If you update to the Official firmware - you cannot install CFW any longer.

food for thought - Sony has not introduced any new features in 3.56 firmware, which would require updated modules that new games would need to load. Should sony not introduce any eboot specific function that is needed and not available in older firmwares and hardcoded into the game via its SDK - newer games will work. I am 100% certain any features/functions that are present in newer firmwares will be available in custom firmwares. Not updating the PS3 mod would be similar to not bothering being able to install linux anyway as the problem was you had to keep the older firmware to load linux preventing any new games from being played. PSN is not a priority for any hacker, but keeping the software current with the ability to install homebrew/restore linux functionality is. Considering sony is trying to censor the very people who make this all possible updates could be very underground depending on the outcome with geohot and the supoenia to twitter and youtube. Gladly almost every other hacker involved do not fall under the DMCA act as they do not live or reside in the USA
What I am not 100% about is how their 'whitelist' in 3.56 works. It seems that the PS3 would need an updated firmware SHA1 list of 'good' eboots to run in 3.56+ as any new games would not have their eboot finalized to be added in. This would almost suggest that newer games will have to 'whitelist' themselves via the eboot, or the PS3 would need a network connection/specific firmware update to add the 'whitelist' to the system to allow the game to boot. Maybe someone else who knows about this could elaborate.
Long of the short - In the foreseeable future sony will not prevent the loading of games. With new SDK and further firmware updates and a silence of hackers (similar to how most DTV/Dishnet hackers were silenced) may require people to figure it out themselves. With the uproar sony are creating, the extensive knowledge on the digital locks sony impose, and many of the hackers not in the DCMA jurisdiction Im sure there will be no problem to maintain game backup/current firmware/PS3 linux/Homebrew. PSN is sonys and there are very few hackers which support PSN use on customized firmware.
If nothing else, install CFW and FTP the contents of your flashes to your HDD. It has to be good information to have on your system. Then you can restore to Official 3.55, and update to official 3.56+ through normal means. CFW --> OFW will give you a nice paperweight!
