BD Emulation & 3.56+
BD Emulation & 3.56+ –

I understand that the BDEMU addon for multiman emulates the BD, thereby allowing an internal game to be played after tricking the ps3 into thinking that it is actually on the BD drive.
However, I don't understand the need for these new 3.56+ games to have modified eboots in addition to the bdemu. Wasn't the point of the modified eboot.bin to replace the BD refrences with HDD refrences? And isn't that already done by emulating the BD?
Apparenly not as the newer games wont work without doing both. So, my question to you, sceners in the know, what is the modified eboot.bin doing that isnt already being done in multiman w/ bdemu?
Danka in advace for furthering my understanding.

The modified EBOOTs are for editing the firmware requirements, like in those 3.56+ games -- someone, usually Belmondo <3, will edit the EBOOT and change any references to/for 3.56, to 3.41 or whatever. The BDEMU has *nothing* to do with 3.56, it's simply the BD-Drive emulator - and bdemu.bin is the emulator that is now missing from MultiMAN by default.

Thank you very much! I thought the only references to the FW version were in the param.sfo. Good to know.
Regarding the BDEMU, i was only comparing them because of the prior pkg method which accomplished the same thing (running from another source) albeit via a different route.
Regardless, hats off to you sir.
Edit: so that must mean the syscall code is still in multiman? I thought thats what he removed and *someone* put in the bdemu.bin. Takes a lot of reading to get an accurate picture!

The only reason BDEmu.bin is required now is because Dean removed the BDEmu functionality from MultiMAN. Before that, it was never needed and games were mounted from the emulator as normal =)
