Ok guys, nobody else seems to be talking about this problem;
Here's what I've done:
PS3 FAT (60gb original w/ hardware emotion chip) -- CECHA01
- started with OFW 3.55
- recovery mode, upgraded to kmeaw 3.55
- installed manager
- FTP games and direct rips do not work (just getting black screen)
(tried GoW3 (FTP), LittleBigPlanet2 (FTP), Prince of Persia 2008)
- tried gaia 2.06, multiman 1.14, rogero - forget which iteration.. latest as of about a week ago
- through troubleshooting, removed all game data for the games I was trying, and removed previous versions of backup managers before attempting upgrade or switch, and always turned off the system after data deletes before trying again, and of course the fix permissions pkg (which gaia does automatically anyway)
PS3 SLIM (250gb) --
- started with OFW 3.15 .. upgraded to OFW 3.55
- upgraded to kmeaw 3.55 (didnt need recovery mode)
- installed gaia 2.06
- tested with GoW3 (FTP) and LittleBigPlanet2 (FTP) and Sly Collection (FTP) .. all worked flawlessly on first try.
-- back to PS3 FAT (same machine as above)
- brand new hard drive. used ps3 to format from recovery mode.
- recovery mode: upgrade to OFW 3.55
- recovery mode: upgrade to kmeaw 3.55
- installed gaia 2.06
- tried ripping prince of persia 2008 from disc .. same thing, just black screen.
Now, since I started fresh with a brand new hard drive, there should be no problems with existing game data causing problems - I know this is the standard response. Also, since it was a fresh format, I shouldn't have to mess with rebuilding database, etc. -- correct me if I'm wrong on this.
UPDATE: Prince of Persia was the only game I tried on the new drive just before going to bed last night, and I just tried it on the slim and it didn't work there either. Fallout3 is working on the fat now, so I will try to backup the saves from my original drive and I imagine a format will fix that as well. Will update if any problems after format. Thanks to all who brainstormed with me!
