    Ok guys, nobody else seems to be talking about this problem;

    Here's what I've done:

    PS3 FAT (60gb original w/ hardware emotion chip) -- CECHA01
    - started with OFW 3.55
    - recovery mode, upgraded to kmeaw 3.55
    - installed manager
    - FTP games and direct rips do not work (just getting black screen)
(tried GoW3 (FTP), LittleBigPlanet2 (FTP), Prince of Persia 2008)
    - tried gaia 2.06, multiman 1.14, rogero - forget which iteration.. latest as of about a week ago
    - through troubleshooting, removed all game data for the games I was trying, and removed previous versions of backup managers before attempting upgrade or switch, and always turned off the system after data deletes before trying again, and of course the fix permissions pkg (which gaia does automatically anyway)

    PS3 SLIM (250gb) --
    - started with OFW 3.15 .. upgraded to OFW 3.55
    - upgraded to kmeaw 3.55 (didnt need recovery mode)
    - installed gaia 2.06
    - tested with GoW3 (FTP) and LittleBigPlanet2 (FTP) and Sly Collection (FTP) .. all worked flawlessly on first try.

-- back to PS3 FAT (same machine as above)
    - brand new hard drive. used ps3 to format from recovery mode.
    - recovery mode: upgrade to OFW 3.55
    - recovery mode: upgrade to kmeaw 3.55
    - installed gaia 2.06
    - tried ripping prince of persia 2008 from disc .. same thing, just black screen.

Now, since I started fresh with a brand new hard drive, there should be no problems with existing game data causing problems - I know this is the standard response. Also, since it was a fresh format, I shouldn't have to mess with rebuilding database, etc. -- correct me if I'm wrong on this.

UPDATE: Prince of Persia was the only game I tried on the new drive just before going to bed last night, and I just tried it on the slim and it didn't work there either. Fallout3 is working on the fat now, so I will try to backup the saves from my original drive and I imagine a format will fix that as well. Will update if any problems after format. Thanks to all who brainstormed with me!

It uses some specific patches to run some non working games (AC and others, check the Multiman's thread for more info).
    PS3 Slim v3.55 + CFW Kmeaw - 250G/USB 1T
    XBOX 360 Falconv3/Jtag - Liteon74 1.61 - 500G
    Wii 4.2 + Cfg UsbLoader - USB 250G | NDS + M3 Real - SDHC 8G | NDS + R4i - SDHC 4G
    PS2 + HDLoader - HDD 200G | PSX + PS Hacker

Well, I'm willing to try anything, but the multiman thread has at least one post where it was said the select+X option only works on external.

Anybody reading this and has backups working on orig 60gb with hardware PS2 compatible? Even if you don't have any ideas, I'd like some hope that I might get this working. I've done enough troubleshooting to start thinking there is a bug in the firmware / payloads that isnt addressed on my model.

EDIT: further reading on the "select+x" feature suggests that it only works on external drives, and even then, only for games that previously only worked on internal. anybody with further technical knowledge of the code that went into this, feel free to correct me. I will be trying this as a troubleshooting step in about 3 hours. In the meantime, any other suggestions are welcome.

Success stories are also more than welcome. Who has this working on an original 60gb fat with hardware backwards compatibility? I can't be the first one that kept my machine in working order all this time..

I've got the same model, so it's strange.
Kmeaw's Modified 3.55. Installed from recovery.
We did everything the same way.
My LBP2, and anything else, has worked fine with multiMan.
I didn't have to do any special tricks, or anything.

Alright Wasabi, thanks for the report. This gives me hope that I may yet get it working.

Which model number do you have?

I'll keep this thread posted about my troubleshooting efforts tonight, and I'll get you my exact model number so we can be sure it's the same one.

    My model is CBEH1000

What is your model? Have you tried anything that I haven't tried?

    I am going to try several things right now;

    - wasabi's suggestion using newest multiman and select + x
    - put games on external usb drive instead of internal

    - and a shot in the dark: when i formatted the new hard drive, i was still under kmeaw. so i will try format, update to OFW, format again, update to kmeaw... seriously doubtful that this had any consequence, but I'm drawing at straws here. starting to think this is an untested model with bugs that haven't cropped up yet.. after all, the scene is only 6 months old now
