Backup Manager Misbehaving
Backup Manager Misbehaving –
09-09-2010,01:31 PM
Well, finally I got a port of PSFreedom on my android phone and now have a jailbroken PS3.
Backup manager,
original as well as stealth versions...
i've installed all.
they work fine till the point of copying the games to ext hdd , but are unable to launch the game.
when I click on X to launch the game... and go back to see the disc in xmb, it shows the disc which is inserted and plays that. the game selected from backup manager to run does not load up.
any clues if i might be doing something wrong... or anyone else has faced such a problem?
ftp service is running.... but crashed several times , and couple of times also froze PS3.

Are you running the backup enabled (patched) version?
Where did you get your android PSgroove files from? It should say on there...

i picked up android files from
hxxp://howtohackps3.com/psfreedom-for-htc-touch-pro1-2diamond-1-2-is-now-available/
I'm using Blackstone, and diamond2 and blackstone have same inernals.
jailbreaking part is fine.
Backup manager I got from searching around.
one was stealth manager, which hides the backup manager as MW2
and another is the original backup manager released by psjailbreak
The backup manager installs fine...
rips the games to ext hdd fine.
the only problem is when i want to launch a game thru it... the xmb still shows the disc game and runs that one instead of the game selected in backup manager.

I would try to obtain the PSfreedom files from somewhere else because some websites are posting the unpatched version (anti-piracy) which has BD emulation disabled.
I'm pretty sure this is why you're seeing the original in the drive rather than the backup you selected.
It's not the backup manager that has the BD emu disabled ether, it's the exploit you load from the USB drive which has it disabled. Doesn't matter how many versions of BM you try, none will work if you're running the unpatched PSFreedom files.

read these forums so many times about the disabling of BD games... but didn't realized that patched payload is required untill u asked for it.
Thanks Xeauron.
I was under the impression that the unpatched one will not allow installation of backup manager itself. and since backup manager was installed , and i was able to backup the games i had...
Thanks again for your help
PS: Excitement slows down the thinking process

sunnyone, I'm having the same problem as you - Indentical!
I'm running the exploit from my Touch Diamond.
Here are the steps required but I need help in the terminal. In the phones terminal, how do I enable payload_bdemu.bin so that the backups will work?
Since the release of PSFreedom 1.0, you can now customize it to load a specific payload.
The payloads are what gets executed when the exploit runs. There are four different payloads currently shipped with PSFreedom in the bins/ directory*:
▪ payload_bdemu.bin*: This is the standard payload with BD-Emu support (which allows to play backups)
▪ payload_no_bdemu.bin*: This is the standard payload without BD-Emu support
▪ payload_dev_bdemu.bin*: This is the PSGroove payload which adds Poke/Peek system calls, with BD-Emu support
▪ payload_dev_no_bdemu.bin*: This is the PSGroove payload which adds Poke/Peek system calls, without BD-Emu support
In order to use one of these files, you simply need to load the PSFreedom module, then a directory will appear /proc/psfreedom/. You need to copy the desired payload into /proc/psfreedom/payload before running the exploit, and that's it!
The story is similar for shellcode bins and /proc/psfreedom/shellcode. The shellcodes are*:
▪ shellcode_exec_payload.bin*: This is the default shellcode which will look for the payload and execute it
▪ shellcode_panic.bin*: This is a test only shellcode that will force your PS3 to LV1 Panic (beeps, shuts down and blinks the red LED). It is useful to debug whether the shellcode gets executed or not, independently of the content of the payload.
