Backing Savedata Manually via Blackb0x
Backing Savedata Manually via Blackb0x –
So earlier today I swapped my 80GB PS3 HDD with my 160GB Netbook HDD.
Figured I could avoid the lengthy PS3 backup process to an external HDD by transferring my savadata folder manually (hdd0/home/00000001/savedata) and then copy it back over.
I did just that.
After I put the 160GB HDD in my PS3, I copied the savedata back over to the exact same location (I re-downloaded a PSN game so the PS3 would create the directory savedata itself first).
However, after copying the data back over, and rebooting the PS3, it does not show up, but if I look at the data via FTP, I can see it's there (over 800MB of save data!).
I'm assuming there are some *.dat files or something somewhere that possibly need to be copied as well.
Does anyone know if this method even works? I'm going to just use an external HDD and do the backup normally within the PS3 from my old HDD (glad I didn't format it!).
you only need to rebuild your database using recovery mode. thats it.
Thanks for saving me a lot of time naddel81!!
Had the same problem, you can also put the content of "savedata" on a usb stick in
Then you go in the save data utility and you should see them
for example with my u2 saves : \PS3\SAVEDATA\BCES00509_NDI_UNCHARTED2_BT_2
did it work?

Great to hear, I have also some protected save data which didn't backup using the normal way.

Yepp. Glad I didn't have to use an external hdd. I'm done with swapping HDDs in and out of my ps3 for a while lol.
