Assassins Creed 1 backup problems

My AC1 backup will either kick me back to XMB or black screen and I swear I've tried everything. I'm on Rebug 4.30.1

When I backed it up onto my internal, it just kicked me back to XMB, so I followed the AC entry instructions on the PShomebrew wiki and created a "ASSASSIN_ISO" folder in USRDIR. I did that and then it started to black screen and I had to restart the console.

After that I started searching around and found a couple posts saying to use deank's ebootfix pc tool in order to turn the installation into a PSN-style application that I can run from the XMB. I tried this and it just kicks me back to XMB when I run it.

Am I doing something wrong or do I have to go out and buy a 16GB flash drive to run it externally?
