The PSARC method works since it's simply extracting the archive into its correct folder, but actually splitting the file will cause issues with the game. The game may load, but it cannot read the files after the split. IE;

    RR7.DAT will become; RR7.DAT and then; RR7.DAT.66601 incremental for the split files. The game will read the first bit of data from RR7.DAT, then fail when it can't find the rest.
    I'm playing RDR on internal with split files. No problems yet..

    had a similar issue while back and narrowed it down to be something pretty simple - not entirely sure what multiman loads when you start it up but its something that conflicts with the working of iris manager

    in short for some reason or another multiman can be run after you've used iris but not the other way around

    simple fix.... just power off and on again the ps3 (then start iris manager not multiman) if you use multiman after that then you'll need to restart the ps3 again before you can use iris again

    well at least this is what i've found - dont know if its meant to be like that or if its a random bug but not had a single problem with just over 150 games ALL running from fat32 external (only have eyepet on the internal, lol)

    hope this may help for you too

    not really as once there's a payload then there's a payload Iris should be able to run big file cache without re-boot

    guess i've done something wrong then, lol, everytime i run iris after multiman (even if i use iris then multiman then iris again) it says something about syscal 36, no caching of big files allowed (or something to that effect so dont quote me on that, lol) and have to restart ps3 before i can use iris again - it doesnt freeze or anything i just cant start any of the ones that need the file cache

    could even just be something silly like i need to update something on my system - will have a poke around properly when i can be bothered and see whats causing it but only takes me an extra few seconds so not too fussed at the minute

    just suggested it in case it was a similar issue to whatever is wrong with my setup, lol

    yea I don't know it did as I suggested, first Iris load game (big file cache) second multiMAN load game, third Iris load game (big file cache): everything worked

    You'll see

    (I'm TELLING you, split files will crash your game eventually. As soon as the game tries to read data that is now outside of the main archive, you'll crash. Hard. Also; why are you splitting files on the INTERNAL drive? That makes no sense whatsoever)

    you know what.... i'm so glad you asked that, lol, i was sat here scratching my head thinking..... 'but,why?'

    oh and by the way, just realised i never even answered the question - dont have ridge racer so no idea about that one but yes, other 2 games work from external using iris and split files with the cache install option - would suggest to rip them direct to external (or to internal and then copy/move to external) to let your manager split them correctly as sometimes doing it yourself can cause issues (not saying it will, just sometimes)

    apparently ridge racer works through iris too, so all 3 games should be fine ran through iris with split files from external (split files are not the same as extracting the psarc files)
