I'm very interested in this progress.
Is there any way to get the game to look to the BD drive for the game files but look at the disc as a data disc and not a game disc? I personally don't like backup managers and would prefer to deal with a disc by disc basis since I have a bluray burner and I have already a 300 disc carousel controlled by my PC. I just search the disc on my pc and it pops it out of the carousel and I put it in my PS3. Any chance of this being possible realistically?

I was asking in another thread if someone was working on moddifying eboots for games that requires disc since all of the 3.50 games seems to work discless after being moddified.
Hope you make good progress with this and that others with the knowledge of moddifying eboots joins you, would be sweet to have all games boot discless. I would love to contribute but it's way out of my league even after reading guides about it.
Are you sure that the paths used to boot the game from the HDD are in the EBOOT.BIN file? what about the PARAM.SFO file, because according to the description of the debug options (read here), there are a couple of options relating to this subject (at leat I think they are related).
• GameContentUtil Boot Path (/app_home/PS3_GAME/)
Change the game content boot path when an application is started from /app_home/PS3_GAME/.
- “For Development” : return the real path where the application is started.
- “For Release” : return the path from the PARAM.SFO settings.
• GameContentUtil dirName (Debugger)
Change the game content directory when an application is started from the debugger in release mode.
Might be worth a check
