Efuse possibilty of some sort anyone?
Or hmm... Maybe this could also be related to what's causing issues with blu-ray left over files from older versions or some other crap.
This post should be pinned. I tried it and it works.. My ps3 320gb slim asian version pre-loaded with 3.50 fw downgraded to modified 3.41 (bricked) power on then shutdown.
I've had the same issue now with multiple ps3 stock 3.5 firmware 320gig consoles, all happened to be gran turismo5 bundled EUR,consoles and all failed the downgrade but allowed me to return them to 3.5 firmware with appropriate 3.5 firmware update. You guys are probably right with regards to the fact that its because they never had a previous firmware installed or it could be an efuse I wonder...
I've tried with modified 3.41PUP, 3.41standard, 3.15standard, 3.15debug, even 3.42! No go on all of them. Anybody have any suggestions for me to try out?
I am trying to do the EXACT same thing! And have failed with, 3.15, 3.15 Debug, 3.41, 3.41 modified and i get as far as installing the old firmware and it seems to stop and the green light flashes seemingly forever (gave it 90 mins the last time)

I have a slim 160 I just got today and am experiencing the same issue.
I am not telling you are lying, as there is already enough people confirming this, but this makes no sense techincally.
the service mode does not use any kind of "left overs" from early firmwares, this must be some kind of bug in the payload, that is what i am seeing.
It can't be the service mode those are official sony tools.
As for the efuses question, no it doesn't use efuses, go read something on the ps3 architecture.
I just find it odd that I can update with the 3.5 flash but nothing else, I wonder if I activated the system for gameplay/video playback if that would make any difference.

I get the error:

[EDIT - working now]
It's working now, on my PS3 Slim 320GB Move bundle, CECH-2504B. I first tried installing the 3.15 debug. No luck. 3.15 Debug again. No luck. 3.15 retail. No luck.
Then i installed 3.50 retail to unbrick, and installed modified 3.41. And it's working now.
