PS3Key Tutorial and External HDD tutorial
PS3Key Tutorial and External HDD tutorial –
Okay i got my ps3key yesterday and stayed up til 2 figuring out how to get it to work. I figured i can release a noob friednly guide as this is how i got it to work.
Step 1: Download the latest firmware from http://www.ps3key.com/en/members/downloads/ and the update application (i recomend 2.1 as 2.2 did not work for me, and also if you do not have a serial number like i did cause the shipping company screwed up on their job message me and i'll post a link to it).
Step 2: Open ps3key update application and select the file (as i recommend 2.1) MUST BE DONE BEFORE PLUGGING IN PS3KEY. Plug and unplug the ps3key until the light is blue (takes quite a few tries). Then press update and wait.
Step 3: Flash a normal usb drive to FAT32 (go to my computer, right click the icon and format). Copy open backup manager in the root http://psx-scene.com/forums/showthre...backup+manager (Open Manager - Now updated to v1.17 - KaKaRoTo Support!)
Step 4:Insert the ps3key into the ps3 usb slot;go to ps3, shut off power on the back (unplug it if you use a slim) and then turn it on from the back (plug in). from the front turn on the power and quickly press the eject button, if done right there should be a 2nd beep. If all is done correctly the ps3key should flash red then blue.
Step 5: plug in usb with back up manager
Step 6: go to game and install package folder and install the backup manager
Step 7: now that you are done you can use the installed application to backup your games, if you want to learn how to set up an external hard drive for backed up games go on the guide, or else you're solid. BTW this open manager version requires you to put in ANY blueray disc for the game to work.
Step 8: Your drive must be set to FAT32 and must be under 2 terabytes
http://psx-scene.com/forums/showthre...highlight=ntfs (Formatting External Hard Drive to FAT32)
that thread worked wonders, i'm too lazy to simplify it.
Step 9: Games should be in a folder called GAMEZ or they won't be read. so it would be GAMEZ>Game Name> PS3 contents. Game name is whatever you used to rename your ripped games to, they often come out as Blue10101, or a word following some numbers.
This is the guide i found online which did not help much as i had to do some more research but if you want to see some pictures here they are. http://www.gowetrade.com/ps3-key-don...342_p2411.html
I hoped it helps!!! message me if any more problems, i do not claim all the credits, i simply just compiled some threads and made it noob friendly.
FW 1.3 and 2.3 (2.2 and 1.2 and 2.1 is in the post below)

Do we have to do anything special If we already have backup manager 1.0 installed on our ps3?
Nope, you cxan update your backup manager but other than that, any will do unless some new games require a newer version
BRW 1.3 and 2.3 fw are out:
I will change the first post, and for those who have a geniune ps3key (like from a reseller on ps3key.com) please contact the company who sold it to you, the first batch of serials were sent after the batch of ps3key so they are seperated but they do have it.
pm me if the link stops working
I'm following your directions but my ps3key turns red then blue then flashes blue and stays red. I unplug the ps3, put the ps3key in, plug in the ps3, turn on the power and press eject.
