Product recall for a small number of PS3Keys

I dont think this has been posted but I got this in my email this morning. Hopefully it will help some people that are having problems.

Dear PS3Key user,

During a routine audit of our systems, it came to light that a small number of PS3Keys were sent out with an incorrect bootloader. If your PS3Key serial number is between 1001 0300 0000-x and 1001 0300 0999-x then you are affected. Please contact your point of sale who will be happy to exchange it for you.

We have already sent notifications to the distributors that we supplied this stock to, so their resellers should already be aware of their situation. If they are not, just send them a link to this news article. We have already provided our distributors new stock, so getting a replacement should be a very straightforward process.

If you have a PS3Key within the affected serial number range, you may not notice any abnormal activity. However, due to the problem with the bootloader on these particular dongles, unforeseen and unpredictable issues may occur in the future. Therefore, we encourage everyone with a PS3Key within this range to return it to their point of sale for replacement immediately.

We'd also like to stress that this issue is NOT a hardware-related issue but rather an issue related to the bootloader. However, because the bootloader is required to update PS3Key, it is not possible to release an update to replace the bootloader.

We'd like to apologize for any inconvenience that this issue causes anyone. We place the current and future reliability of PS3Key above all else which is why we decided to make this announcement.

actually many others serial range have this problem, i already got more than 20ps3key defective here

no, its only for the 1001-0300 range

Umm... dumb question here. How do you find your serial #?

If it's off the yellow sticker (which I don't have since I got one of the "originals" from modchipcentral), then aren't those put on randomly?

Yes, it's on the yellow sticker. There are actually 2 numbers on the sticker.

You say it affects other serial range too but what exactly are the symptoms of this problem? The email from PS3key merely refers to future unpredictable behaviour and that you may not notice any abnormal activity?
Is this related to the inability to update firmware? What other serial number ranges are affected that you have?

it sounds like i have this problem. but my key is not in the range of serials either. my ps3 key will not update no matter what. key team informed me to just send it back for replacement.

the serial numbers range should be more big, i cannot tell which number because we return to us all items are without anymore the serial and package.
however most problems are usb error in windows and some ps3key cannot enter in update mode. one reported that ps3key dead after some days usage too.

for safety i tested about 500 ps3key with silabs chipset and found only 2 defective. seems this new generation ps3key are more reliable.
personally i advice to buy only new ps3key with silabs chipset
