Is this a known flaw that you must not have anything besides the ps3key in the ps3 when booting up the system (otherwise it fails to go into JB mode). Just want to confirm this cause I dont want to plug my hdd in everytime I use my ps3. I wish I could just leave it plugged in

although it is widely spread that it is recommendable to have only ps3key plugged in during the boot process, mine works ok with many usb devices plugged in simultaneously.

    my setup:

    - usb0 (usb port nearest to the ps3 corner): 1TB seagate external hdd.

    - usb1: cheap generic 7 port usb hub; i have connected to it: ps3key, guitar hero 5 guitar dongle, dj hero dongle, and sometimes an 8GB thumbdrive.

ps3 boots in jb mode succesfully every time.
PS3 Slim 500GB (bought right after JB was announced)
    1TB external

In my experience it depends on the hard drive. I have tried two different drives. With one plugged in the PS3 will not jailbreak at all. With the other plugged in it will jailbreak fine.

Try your drive. If the PS3 jailbreaks when it is plugged in then you can leave it in. If not then you need to remove it before jailbreaking.

Thanks guys. Yea my current external wont allow the ps3key to go into JB mode when the hdd is also plugged in. Guess I will try another one and hope I get better results.

Same. With my 500GB it works, but with my 1GB dongle it gives Unknown USB device error.
