Sounds good to me as far as logic is involved, too bad not all of us have 3 2.5'' HDD's available to test and confirm.

@wess
Thanks man you are great.
I tried your method today and it worked perfect. What i have done is the following.
On firmware 3.50 rename the user1 account to his original name. Then make an connection to my wireless network at home(don't think it matters if you choose kabel or wireless). Then if changed the network configuration on my ps3 and changed the dns to 67.202.81.137. Then i connected to psn en did what you say logon with the email and password for that account. after that i tried to play gran turismo 5 and i was so happy. My savegame loaded again.
So the next step is to try it on 3.41. Hopefully it will work there to so i always can play my savegames again.
Maybe i will try it tommorow night.
When i know more i will let you know.
Thanks for youre great work
sorry for my bad englisch:P
@superb1
It will be nice if you want to try that.
But i can confirm that you will only need one disk for everything.
In my situation that worked fine. I can update to 3.50 and play new games. Then downgrade and play backups again all with the same internal disk.
My internal disk didn't format like other peoples told the only problem was with my user accounts but that's easy to fix!
I must say my ps3 is one of the first one(40 gig). Maybe i had luck because i have the 256 mb nand......??
You are correct about the older fats not formatting but unfortunately newer models and slims do require a format on downgrading so 1hdd will unfortunately not work as downgrading would remove both 3.50 and 3.41 content.
My method also works for keeping your 3.50 content intact when dns bypass is no longer available and you are no longer able to sign in and reactivate.
Again, I have only done this on my slim. Untested on my fat 80 as I have no need.
I see, so those with newer models will need a 3.5HDD, 3.41HDD and a spare HDD for the update/downgrade operation, your method is a must i will say if people don't wanna backup and restore all the time then!
BTW, the steps I provided are not really for signing in to PSN as is, it's just to somehow re-synch the account even if the connection don't work. If you wanna test it, do the following:
- under 3.41FW (DNS trick wont work here as we know) create a new Profile on your PS3
- reconfigure your Network Settings with the DNS trick
- now without Signing Up/In go and try to get to PSN Store ... It will let you browse the contents even if you are on 3.41FW!
So if I'm not mistaken, the update/downgrade somehow wipes the PSN account info from the PS3 even if the HDD is not formatted. And by doing what I did, the account will be ferified even if the connection to PSN does fail and you get prompted with '' a new software update is available....''
Good to know there's more than 1 way to prevent those gt5 saves from getting wiped/locked etc :)
hi guys.
Today i downgraded to 3.41 again to test if the fix for the user accounts will work on 3.41 to.
I can confirm that it worked. I did the same as on 3.50 and now i can play the backups again with the savegames.:dance:
Thanks for all your help!!
That's great! Glad I could help :D
