Loading an ISO without a blue ray drive... –
So on what I will now refer to as the saddest day of my life, I went out and picked up Dead Space 2 and Mass Effect 2, came back, and the new TB hd I'd ordered for the PS3 came in. It didn't fit within the case (although it supposedly fit the 2.5 form factor), so I ended up having to take the PS3 apart to get it to fit. In the process, I knicked the blue ray ribbon cable (not the data one, the smaller one closer to the inside), and now it refuses to recognize any discs.
So I went and installed 3.55 Kmeaw with multiman, gaia, and rogero, and found an iso of the game. The PS3 still runs demos and all packages (Huzzah for the super nintendo emulator; only reason I haven't snapped and smashed the thing yet), so it's not the logic board that's broken; hence it should still be able to run.
Each time I go to load the game from the apps/Game thing; Mass Effect will at least load the screen in the background, then it says 'Please Wait' and boots to XMB. Dead Space refuses to do anything.
So my questions are:
1) Is there any place I can simply purchase new ribbon cables?? That seems to me like it would just solve all my problems, but I can't find anywhere that sells them this specialized...
2) Barring that, do these games simply not work without a disc in the drive? I hear people talking about loading images and using them disc-less, but is entirely blue-ray-less something else, or am I doing something wrong??
Thanks for any help, guys and girls. I'd love to actually be able to PLAY a ps3 game again....
PS Jailbreak Compatibility List - Home for a somewhat comprehensive list of games that work diskless. And, I'm sure you can find those ribbon cables on eBay or a site that sell lasers, etc for the ps3.
