Gran Turismo 5 Modding –
I've spent the past few days working with the GT.VOL file, trying to get it decrypted so that we can start hybriding in the game. So far, haven't found the lucky combination. I've decrypted the eboot.bin and inspected with IDA thoroughly, and found what appears to be a key. Using the key directly hasn't worked for DES or AES decryption on GT.VOL, nor has the root PS3 key/iv that were released (I'm new to the PS3 scene so the latter was probably just flat out never going to be the case anyway). Note that the decryptions actually took place. It wasn't the method of decrypting that was the problem, it was definitely an incorrect key or incorrect type (DES/AES/etc.) It's been probably 15 years since I've looked at assembly code, being primarily a VB programmer with some C (++, Objective etc.) experience now. Tracing in IDA, it does appear that the key data might be manipulated before it's used for the decryption.
Has anyone else dove into this yet? Also, am I simply digging in the wrong place and the key to decrypt the GT.VOL file isn't anywhere I've looked/found already? I'd be willing to post my findings and some code snippets if someone knows assembly better than me and wants to take a look, or jump onboard and help the cause.
On a side note - it's possible that the GT5.0 file in the save games uses the same key. This might open up save modding, too.
