downgrading ur ps3

Can anyone answer this question plz...
Is it only the fat ps3 that lose blueray playback from downgrading ..
Reason i ask is i have done 4 ps3 s all slim downgraded all from 3.50 to 3.41
all work perfect blueray, games on disc, games on ext hdd, int hdd etc however a friend wants his doing but its the older fat ps3 and i dont want to downgrade it to 3.41 if theres a chance he will lose blueray...
I am fairly sure its only the fat ps3 but plzzzzzzzz someone confirm

Models CECHA-CECHG lose bluray playback (256MB NAND units). To stop this from happening, play the latest bluray movie you can find in the PS3 before downgrading (Just need to get to title screen then quit). After you get back to XMB, install Blackb0x FTP server on the PS3 and backup all files in /dev_flash3 to your computer. Downgrade the PS3 and then reinstall blackb0x FTP and restore the files back into /dev_flash3. Bluray playback will be restored.

Only the phat PS3's in that model range
