I've never tried the process myself, but the info in this thread should help you: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f180/exc...nlocked-74882/ (EXCLUSIVE - GT5 Save SUCCESSFULLY hacked/unlocked!)
That thread seems to be focused on GT5. The saves that I have trouble with won't even let me copy to USB drive to begin with...
Correct, but the information should still pertain. I believe you have to FTP the gamesave to your computer, unlock it, and then FTP it back. That is, if you're using CFW currently.
I can tell you how to retrieve the saves from FTP. Not too sure about the copy protection though. I ended up doing this because I finally found a way to boot one of my games discless using direct boot with multiman. Only issue was it would not recognize my previous saves, as I found out when "direct booting" it actually creates a different GAME ID folder for game data and saves. Weird but I was able however to hack my save to work by modding all my PARAM.sfos within my real save file to match the new GAME ID that multiman gave my new save, then dropped my real save into the new folder where i just created a save to test this. I also modded my trophy PARAM.sfo. Luckily enough it worked. Still not sure if my trophies will continue to work or not but my save is and thats all i really care about.
But anyways outside of my storybook, when FTP'ing in to your xbox, you should find them in the following location:
dev_hdd0/home/0000000001/saves
note- the 0000000001 folder basically is for User 1 while 0000000002 would be for user 2 and so on.
* Also Chesh, you were famous on the internet today. About 5 different sites I saw were quoting your opinion on the PSN shutdown from Reddit or something. I think they all just copied the same article over and over or something. I was like hey i know that guy, hes our mod man!

i've tried myself you cannot remove the copy protection from the gamesave (without it ruining the save file completely) it has been tried in the past but it just made the copy protected save file unreadable by any game, you can transfer the copy protected save file to a usb stick after extracting it via ftp but it's pointless because you can't copy it back over to any ps3 you want it still says "copying prohibited"
also ftp the files into the ps3 with a copy protected save file doesn't work most of the time, it will either not save properly or it will say save corrupt and go in a endless cycle to try and attempt to save.
so unless someone knows a valid way to get copy protected save files to copy over to any ps3 we are stuck like this till someone does that, but i won't hold my breath that we will get any progress.
There is a way i tried and it work's for the games i have "Sly Trilogy"
"Star Ocean" the only game this method doesn't work was "Dante Inferno' couse this game names saves each time diffrently.
No the method FTP the copy protected files to PC and do whatever you want with your PS3 after your done, make sure that you have the same PSN acc registered on the PS3 or if you didn't have one don't make one since some save are PSN locked meaining it will only work wtih the same PSN account.
if you had one then jus log in once so the system will register it.
After that run the games that have copy protecion saves and make a random save after you did all game's just overwrite them with the ones on your pc and it shiuld work, it worked for me, once it gave me an error but the save still loaded and allowed me to save.
Phew to much writing this is the only method i know of try it if you want
I am on 3.41 JB, do not have PSN account.
I guess I am really out of luck then... If my PS3 breaks then I have no way to recover these saves?
If you don't backup beforehand then no, if you did then use my method above it "should" work it did for me.
CYA
I'd hate to be on OFW at this moment, all the cool saves we'd miss out on.
