Hey guys! Our son still plays on the PS2 system. I was wondering if there is a way to convert PS3 game saves over to PS2 format? I have seen loads of PS3 game saves he could use on the PS2 but I don't know if this is possible.

Not been keeping up with the older systems too much nowadays. I'm strictly on next gen gaming now but our son still loves his PS2 after 6+ years. BTW, the system is modded so we can use ULE for access if possible.

    You need one of these:

It is official adapter from Sony that allows you to plug in a PS2 memory card on your PS3, and then you can use the "save data utility" on the PS3 to copy over the save files.

The other way, might be via a USB stick, but I not sure, if the PS3 allows you to copy existing save files to a USB stick, and then you need a program on the PS2 that can copy a save file also from a USB stick. -- Maybe someone else can answer this!

It's the opposite I'm looking for. Not a PS2 to PS3 save. Instead I'm wanting PS3 to PS2 save files for usage on a modded PS2 system.

Keep in mind here too that I've found PS3 game saves on the internet that I'm wanting to download to convert & not actually saves directly from my PS3 system we already have.

This is why I'm wanting to convert them because these game saves aren't coming from our PS3 system & instead are downloadable game save content for the some of the games we have for our son. These are games that are released for both systems pretty much. Thanks!

I don't know if that's exactly what I'm needing but I'll investigate further. All of the PS3 game saves I have found are not showing as .PSV files once opening/extracting.

Most have a .PFD & .SFO file at least. I have read that these are game save data & settings files. Some have a couple other files/folders than these two formats. Some have a numbered folder or file too. I don't believe I have seen any direct .PSV format files. I do know for sure that these are PS3 game saves though. I had tried the exporter program before but it doesn't do any good if you don't have any .PSV format files.

We do have a PS3 but I'm really not familiar with the file formatting on this system yet. I just know most of the chat I've seen is that .PSV files are common to this gaming system. I'm just wanting to get these PS3 saves I have converted over to PS2 usage but they don't fit the exporter program because they're not .PSV for some reason.

Again, I' looking for the opposite. I want to take a downloaded PS3 game save(s) & convert that to a PS2 format save to use on a modded PS2. Not a PS2 format to PS3 save format to use on a PS3. I hope I made this clear now. Thanks! Go back & look at post #6 of mine to get more details of what I'm looking at here.

Did you read the linked tutorial?
That is exactly what psv exporter does!

Unless things have changed on newer firmwares you just need to copy the save from the PS3 to USB stick or flash card, then manipulate the save on the PC.
Then copy .psu save to the PS2 via uLE.

Yeah I have read it & other tuts as well.

Hmm! Keep in mind that none of the saves are taken directly from our PS3. These are all downloaded save content taken from other gamers. I assume they wouldn't work any different but why doesn't any of the saves load into psv explorer?

Each PS3 file I try to load from PC gives an error when loading into psv explorer. It says "error loading file" with each & every attempt to load any PS3 file. I've tried the .PDF. I've tried The .SFO & others but none of them will load.

I'm not experienced at this at all but why doesn't any of the PS3 files work from psv explorer? I'm running Windows 7 with "Run As Administrator" privileges. This usually does the trick with errors but the files just won't load without problems or they're not being recognized. I'm not sure what's going on!

Edit: After more research I don't think I can do what I'm looking for here. The PSV converter program is for taking PS2/PS1 saves from a PS3 & converting those to PS2 format.

I was wanting to take a direct PS3 game save(not PS2/PS1) & convert that over to PS2 format to use directly on a modded PS2 system. I don't think this way can be done unless someone can tell me otherwise. I haven't found anything in this regard.
