Seriously, I'm befuddled. With the multitude of easy to get always programmable cheap atmel and pic boards why is anyone wasting their money on these cheap clones? The atmel and regular pic hexes get released before the clones anyhow...

Because some people are not only confused and put off by having to flash hex files, they would rather just pay a little extra (or a little less in some cases) to have the hex pre-flashed and be able to visit the one website for updates to their stick.

I know it's reducilously easy to flash the stick, but that's just the way some people think.

Because everyone capable of mass producing such devices are going to try making money from it. This is normal competition in commerce and not everyone will use the same thing, but instead put their 'own' feature/option to entice consumers.

Competition is what drives prices down in the long run, so the more products that are available , the better the consumer has to choose from. You shouldnt 'concentrate' on a specific seller and wonder why they are selling something you dont like, but rather focus on a product that suits you and go tell others why its the better product to buy.
    PS2 Consoles:
    SCPH-30001 [V4] - unmodded (2)
    SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
    SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
    SCPH-79001 [V16] Silver - unmodded

P3free easy to use and under $30 is less than half price of some dev boards. They are not back ordered, sold by a legitimate re seller and quality is guaranteed on this forum. Not to mention they come preflashed so no need to program unless new update is released. Currently to me the new updates such as peek/poke is useless, so is the hermes one cuz ur lucky to get things working on that.

No need to be befuddled I can answer for myself that I am totally cool with flashing my own board, but I went with PS3Key because they were in stock at the time of my order.

I think people want to buy the clone because the ps3key is saled on these web with cheap price and it also works. Who buy the same thing with expensive price?

Best upgradeable, non dev board clone out there. It is also extremely affordable, very few upgradeable clones are even under $30 this is under $25. Also its IN STOCK!
