P3Free NOOB Questions –
01-07-2011,10:54 PM
Hi guys,
Recently purchased a P3Free and everything is working great, i have managed to back up a couple of my games and it is working correctly.
I just have a couple questions:
What is Hermes v4 is this a different back up manager? and is it any better than what i have? (i downloaded everything from the p3free downloads page)
do you install Hermes through a package, like i had to do with when i first installed my back up manager?
is there a way to stop games requesting their update, I'm a little worried that ill accidentally press yes and Sony will some how brick my system or something bad will happen.
and finally is there any way of upgrading my system to 3.50 and everything will still work how it does currently.
I have tried looking for my answers on the forums, but have not had much luck. Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

Hermes 4b is a modified payload used by P3Free to boot your PS3. It adds some extra functions like, no BR disc needed to play games and other function like that. some payloads are better than others, just keep whatever works for you. Hermes 4b seems to be required to play GT5 and a few other games.
You install Hermes with the P3Free updater application on your PC. it is not a pkg.
I don't think you can stop games from requesting an update. Just press circle to skip. if you do update the game, you will not brick the system, but you may brick that game will have to back up again.
there is no way to update to 3.50 at this time. You need to stick with 3.41 for now.

Cheers mikelant.
For any one elso out there to stop my console from downloading something that i dont want it to.
I assigned my PS3 a static ip in my router settings and then blocked its IP. So this will still let me access my LAN but not the internet. This is a good solution for me as i don't use my PS3 for internet access anyway and i know im not going to accidently download anything.
