Newbie - Which Firmware - P3Free Updater

Hi

I have ordered a P3Free and was wondering which is the best firmware to use? I have a phat 60g model running 3.41... I have downloaded the latest P3Free Updater but not sure out the list which one to choose. Or should I manually add a hex file, such as Hermes v4b? Is this the one that could corrupt games so they can not even play the retail version? If i use Hermes PSN 4b does that mean i can update games online?

Also from the description of P3Free I will be getting the F0 model, so do i need to flash it to F2 first?

you will most likely have to flash it. If you want to play online get the psn one if not then the regular v4b 3.41

Just out of curiosity, can I update games to use move with the Hermes Hex File? For example, can i update say Heavy Rain if using Hemes PSN v4b so it will work with move controllers? Or am I able say to hire original game, update it then use a backup version?

Yes, with the latest payloads you can update your games online. It seems to be personal preference what you use, but with my P3Free I use the iLLNESS version of the PL3 payload, which I think is better than Hermes payloads, which you can get at this link here. There are several different hex files in that archive, pick the one that says 3.41 and default. The other 2 (dev and nus) are for more advanced users or to iron out problems. This payload works with PSN as well, from what I've read, but I have been too chicken to try it and risk getting my ps3 banned.

In order to flash it, you'll need P3Free Updater. Note this is the November 3rd release and not the November 7th release because the November 7th release doesn't let you browse for your own hex file, so if you're wanting to use one that isn't on the list you're shit out of luck. The November 3rd one still has the browse feature.

You're going to need a manager as well, I recommend Open Manager 2.1I. It has a built in ftp that comes in handy if you plan to transfer from pc to ps3, but I personally still use blackb0x's ftp server because its the only one that's never crashed on me.

There are alternatives for every program I listed (Hermes v4, Gaia Manager, etc) but I've played with them all and the ones I listed have given me the best results as far as getting the most games working with the least amount of hassle.

its a fpc cable. you could use it with the serial programmer. u should still be able to program it via a usb slot. refer to tutorial
