Alright so i got my free sample. It has a 2 on the side of the ps3free. I assume that means it is version F2. I tried to upgrade using the updater and it goes all through to steps and says device has been removed. But when i put in into the ps3 to launch it. It just keeps flashing the red and green lights back and fourth. Also can someone tell me what the switch on the PS3free is for.

switch should be to the left. mine has the number 2 on it as well. i flashed initially with the PL3 hex found in the appropriate thread for the hexes, created by iLLNESS.

worked perfectly. if you F'ed up your bootloader, you will have to reprogram with the serial programmer.

that's what i was asking about in the other thread about the max pic. i only have a linux box with that serial port.

I had the same problem, mine came and it did not work right out of the box guess it came without firmware. I tried to flash a hex on it with the serial programmer, it still did not work. I had to use usb upgrade method. It finally worked, i had to do the same thing to both for them to work. Im not sure why the serial programmer isnt working. Im about to test and see what the problem is.

Alright thanks, i though you had to use the max pic to program it every time. Got confused with all the stuff i got...lol And since the guide said press the reset button between the led's and the new ones do not have the reset in that position. I was not sure what to hook up. But now i got it working and it was simple once i realized what i had to do. Just plug the actually PS3Free into the usb and run the updater. Simple as pie. Will get my review out hopefully this weekend. Thanks Patrick for the help and for the free sample.

Instead of starting a new post I figured I just ask real quick here. Is there anyway to launch backup manager without having to do the sequence with the ps3free device, wouldnt it get kind of annoying having to unplug and plug back in the power cable?

There is no way you must disconnect it every time. unless you buy a switch cable.

you have to unplug/replug every time, but it's well worth it! actually there are some switches flying around that you can plug into the back of your console so that way you won't have to unplug every time, you can just flip the switch, like no the fat ps3's.

You could plug the PS3 into a power strip with a switch on it.
