Now that those dongles are pretty much useless, is there a way to convert them to usb spi nand flashers or something? they will obviously need some soldering but it's not that bad...
anyone made something of these?

In time, Fire will fade ... and only Dark will remainIf the dongle has a PIC18F2455/2550 chip in it the it is possible i think. Although the guides available show that the schematic has LVP and i think the P3FREE may not?(unsure if this would be an issue).
What i would suggest doing is going to the microchip website and ordering some samples of the chips for free. I did that and got 10 chips, then spent 18 New Zealand Dollars on having the rest of the components sent to me and i have enough to make 12 boards. This would probably be even cheaper if you were to use SMD components, and custom etch you own boards. Anyone with half decent soldering skills should be more than capable to make there own boards.
Google search 'usb spi flasher schematic xbox360' and the first result has all the infor on how to build one. The oscillator part of the circut should be almost identical, the things you would need to change 'should' just be the resistors on pins 21-26 or so and maybe the resistor on MLCR(pin 1).
Hope this helps somehow.
Regards,
thanks, I saw the link on the 360 wiki... too bad the hex link is dead now ...
