Now the P3FREE should auto reset, and you will see one "Generic USB Hub" device appear in the hardware manager.

can you tell me you can see the "OPEN HEX FILE" AFTER you press the RESET button?
if yes, then mean you have using a wrong p3free firmware, you need download the right one from here ---

or even you don't update your ps3 to 3.41 in advance.![]()
sorry about that patrick. so are you saying that because there is a "2" in the yellow box on the sticker on the side of the P3FREE, that if i mess up the bootloader, i can just reflash it via USB?
if so, why did you create the ICSP port with it?
I followed the instructions that patrick posted
installed frameworks, vc++, p3free updater and opened the program up
then I plugged in my p3free via usb. PC detects the device (red led on), press reset button, PC could no longer recognize the device (no led on) and the p3free updater doesn't detect it either. So I'm stuck at step 3
btw, I'm using window 7
Same story here. Stuck at step three. I have never done anything to my p3free dongle that would mess up the bootloader. The very first time I plugged it in it didn't work. I am also using windows 7, I'm trying it on xp tonight. Wish me luck.
BTW when I hit the reset button my computer recognizes the USB device(it beeps) and the bootloader program says 'device attached' but the green progress bar at the top never goes all the way across so I can never get access to the buttons used in step 4 since they stay grayed out.
what hex are you trying to flash? i have heard stories of people trying to flash a hex that is too large for the PIC and the green progress bar just getting stuck. i fortunately did not have this problem with my P3FREE. i flashed the PL3 hex onto mine that iLLNESS compiled.
I am trying to use the hermes v4 that is compatible with the p3free according to other treads in this forum. But that can't have been the issue because my p3free was never recognized fully by the HID bootloader. The green progress bar never went all the way across.
Update: I used the new p3free updater instead of the HID Bootloader that used to be on the site and got the same result. In step three the green progress bar goes half way and I do not have access to any of the buttons.
I had the same problem(Win 7 64bit)
The way I got it done:
Started the HID programmer
Plugged dongle in
Waited for a 20-30 seconds and then pushed reset.
First I tried to press reset immeadiately after plugging in, and nothing happened.
Perhaps you should try a different usb port, preferably one directly connected to the motherboard and not from a hub.
