( see http://psx-scene.com/forums/546946-post2.html (iLLNESS's PSGrooPIC Hexes and Information Thread) for the hex of your need, PSGrooPIC 1.6d is now the latest hex, see description for details )

If you have a dongle version with bootloader installed, just use the usbhid bootloader tool to update the new hex.

if you do not have a bootloader installed or one not working anymore, then you need a pic programmer to flash this device.

if you are using a pic programmer, then make sure you connect the FPC/ICSP correctly. ( I had to remap in order to use my PIC-PG2.)
    Start count from the red-led side of p3free dongle : NC/VCC/NC/PGM/PD/PGC/MCLR/GND ( see also FPC/ICSP on http://www.p3free.com/diy/pic2550/P3...ersion_SCH.gif )

So in general there is no need to wait 'p3free' updates at all to run the latest stuff around
Thanks for the info. I've been following iLLNESS's thread for developments on compatibility for this device so its good to hear that we can update with his hex.

Yes, according to modpro you can. You can use PSGrooPIC 1.7a (Hermes v3) as modpro did or the latest hex PSGrooPIC 1.6d which is a modified version of Hermes v3 by Waninkoko that allows you to download and install game updates while in jailbreak mode. Update using the same steps with the bootloader tool but just use a hex provided (iLLNESS's PSGrooPIC Hexes and Information Thread)HERE. Remember to use a hex that corresponds with your PS3 system firmware (i.e., 3.01, 3.10, 3.15 or 3.41).

kk, i'll try this then.. Hopefully this doesnt brick my free

    *edit*
Well, I downloaded and used the 1.7a hex..
P3free LED lights didnt light up afterwards, and backup manager wouldnt run.

I just re-booted the fw patrick provided and its working agian... What did I do wrong?

(and yes.. I'm on fw 3.41.. and 1.7a was made for 3.41)

I used the HIDbootloader 2.6b that Patrick suggested in his tut btw... Modpro said he used 'microchip usbhid bootloader' tool??? I don't want to attempt again till I hear from someone else.. Afraid I might ruin my p3free

Well thats not good but glad to see you didn't brick it. Sounds like you got the correct hex and followed the same method to upgrade so it's probably a good idea not to flash it anymore until more information is gathered. I don't actually have mine yet so I can't do any testing at the moment. I assumed that when modpro said "microchip usbhid bootloader tool" he was referring to HID_Bootloader_2.6B. Maybe modpro can give us some insight on this to get it working.

(([for me] this means technically the device is compatible))

using pic programmer -> PSGrooPIC_V1.6d_wBTL_FW3.41 -> NO success, red led keeps on.

wasn't able anymore to upgrade the device using hidbootloader with succesfull results :-(

beside that i noticed: no probe at all or long delay in probe (7 seconds).

I guess, to really have stable upgrade solution best is to have a real pic programmer as i would say usb stuff is not 100% stabel.

now busy to try to reproduce the test of yesterday in where i was 1 time successful to upgrade by usb to psgroovePIC

anyone have more info on this subject, do not hesitate to share :-)
ok im definately staying on F1 if even usb upgrades arent 100% stable
definately not gonna risk breaking my shit until i get sent the PIC programmer, if patrick is still sending them out

i think patrick will probably keep a low profile for a few days with all these dissatisfied customers cropping up,now i wish i hadnt upgraded mines now knowing that they are unstable,
