I was wondering why do people still use 3.41 over 3.55 CFW? For me 3.55 CFW is the way to go because it has better compatibility without the hassle. Yes you can mod eboots on 3.41 but you can't update the game, and you have to go through the hassle of making sure all the eboots are modded. With 3.55 CFW you don't have to worry about that. You can also still downgrade in the future if you ever need too.

So your thoughts on why people still stay on 3.41?

Because when things are working, people will think twice about rocking the boat. Unless there is a very big reason to change what is working, people generally take the cautious approach.

No matter how safe, there could still be an element of luck that things can go wrong.

Besides, after upgrading to CFW3.55 , you will have to change all your previous games 3.41 modified eboot back to the original.

I have several PS3 consoles and 2 of them are running 3.41 with a Jailbreak.

    1. 3rd party controller support.
FBA Next is my fave homebrew and i like to use my Arcade stick, My Arcade stick is blocked on higher firmware versions.

    2. Dongles with added extra's (Cobra USB)
The recently released Cobra USB only works on 3.41 and contains some great features that are not implemented into CFW. Features include PSX Support, ISO support for files larger than 4GB on FAT32 External, Region free Bluray playback/ripping and many more. Until these features are implemented into CFW then dongles are currently better IMO. More features = more reasons to stay on 3.41

    3. Cheat devices.
I do not use these myself but it is another reason for some to use a Dongle and 3.41 firmware.

    4. Everything that NitroG said.
If you modified a lot of Eboots to work on 3.41 then switching to 3.55 CFW can be a pain.

I know a few reasons why I stayed on 3.41 for so long. Just a reminder there has been no need for the dongle since right round the same time Kmeaw came out, Hermes dropped his CFW on us which was a great CFW i was using that since it came out back in January-ish. Amazing discless capabilities. Id say almost 95% of my games all ran discless. Now not so much.

I went to Kmeaw 3.55 a few weeks ago finally to check out a few game updates i was wanting. I kind of regret it cause i did sacrifice quite a bit of my discless ability. IrisManager maintains some of it though so its not too bad. I kind of prefer to run them discless if possible because i figure its gotta be a little easier on the hardware even though its not using the disc in the tray, the blu ray player is on. More heat, and those usually seem to be one of the first things i hear about going on a ps3.

Also on game updates, at least in my experience, I havent found that many games that require 3.50 or 3.55 that are that great. 3.41 is still relatively new as far as the lifespan of the PS3 goes so you can still acquire most game updates just fine. I think that is a common misconception about 3.41 and not being able to update. I only had like one or two I couldnt update. And now that 3.56 and 3.60 are out, 3.55 and 3.41 users share the same canoe having to deal with modded eboots and such.

Other reasons people would stay on 3.41 i know of are:

    1. 3rd party controller support
    2. Dongles (whatever their use may be for it now, i dont know maybe the cobra dongle)
As far as I know, my ps3 has never had an undetected error.

...because I've got a huge backlog of games that I haven't played and none of them need anything higher than 3.41.

...because I've got a life and can't just blow through 11 hrs straight on a game just to finish it.

I stay on 3.41 because everything I want to do with my ps3 I can do on 3.41.
I have absolutely no need to update at all. However if in the future I decide to update I easily can, just install a pup and change some eboots and apps, done.

If I was on 3.55 and wanted to downgrade(which will format my ps3's HDD) I not only would have to spend an entire day backing up and re-transferring all my backups/game data/saves to my ps3 but I would loose all my trophy's and maybe even psn content and on top of all that I would still have to change some eboots and apps.

Not to mention 3.41 provides for debug mode(3.55 may now as well, I dont know) and dongles and mostly disk less game play, yes its true that you can hex edit eboots to run from the XMB and therefore increase your disk less game play ratio, but that is more work and simply unneeded on 3.41.

Well, what has already been said of course...
and in my case I have actually considered going back to 3.41 several times because of the occasional crashes I get on the CFW that I did not get on 3.41. I can't speak for the slims as I don't have one, but on my phat system, the 3.55 crashes sometimes, which annoys me. It's minor I admit, and does not happen very often, but it bothers me nonetheless. 3.41 never did this. ever. At the end of the day I've stuck with the CFW though and will probably continue to do so...but I keep my dongles handy just in case I change my mind hehe

A lot of people have failed lasers or broken drives.

I have a 3.41 console that i am fixing up right now with a broken drive .... I've removed the drive completely but fitted the logic board to stop the black screen while playing games .... Obviously this can only use discless games.

I will pick up a working drive for it eventually but for now it is better to keep it on 3.41 OFW.
