I know a few reasons why I stayed on 3.41 for so long. Just a reminder there has been no need for the dongle since right round the same time Kmeaw came out, Hermes dropped his CFW on us which was a great CFW i was using that since it came out back in January-ish. Amazing discless capabilities. Id say almost 95% of my games all ran discless. Now not so much.
I went to Kmeaw 3.55 a few weeks ago finally to check out a few game updates i was wanting. I kind of regret it cause i did sacrifice quite a bit of my discless ability. IrisManager maintains some of it though so its not too bad. I kind of prefer to run them discless if possible because i figure its gotta be a little easier on the hardware even though its not using the disc in the tray, the blu ray player is on. More heat, and those usually seem to be one of the first things i hear about going on a ps3.
Also on game updates, at least in my experience, I havent found that many games that require 3.50 or 3.55 that are that great. 3.41 is still relatively new as far as the lifespan of the PS3 goes so you can still acquire most game updates just fine. I think that is a common misconception about 3.41 and not being able to update. I only had like one or two I couldnt update. And now that 3.56 and 3.60 are out, 3.55 and 3.41 users share the same canoe having to deal with modded eboots and such.
Other reasons people would stay on 3.41 i know of are:
1. 3rd party controller support
2. Dongles (whatever their use may be for it now, i dont know maybe the cobra dongle)
As far as I know, my ps3 has never had an undetected error.
