What to do with a 3.41 console?
What to do with a 3.41 console? –

As the title says, got a fat PS3 on 3.41, and I'm not completely sure what to do with it regarding CFW.
From what I've read so far, the safest option seems to be to update it first to OFW 3.55, then install KMEAW, and leave it at that. Seems as though the only advantage to updating beyond that to Rogero's latest CFW is not needing EBOOT patches, and given the numerous reports of console bricks, I'm a little wary of taking the risk. Are there any other reasons to update to 4.30 CFW? All the PSN hacks seem to work with 3.55 as well.
I don't have a hardware flasher myself, but I understand it's possible to do a firmware dump with just multiman; would this dump be enough to recover the console if it was somehow bricked, if i sent it to someone who does have one?

Yes what you need to do is go to 3.55 OFW then to Kmeaw
Many people would kill for a 3.55 PS3! Yes Rogero 4.30 is good but Kmeaw is stable and most eboots for games are available, thanks to DUPLEX and unSANE. And now i read 4.25 keys have been leaked so that means all the latest eboots (PES 13, Borderlands 2 etc.)! So what I'd definitely suggest is going to 3.55 Kmeaw

Alright, thanks for the reply =)
And just to confirm, once I have a patched update .pup for KMEAW, I can just install it through XMB, yes? I also read in a dated guide about needing a patch .pkg to load every time I want to use multiman, is this still a requirement, or do newer versions not require it?

Yep Kmeaw patched update .pup and install it through the XMB. No you don't have to run the lv2 patcher .pkg every time anymore, that was fixed a while back. As long as you have the latest MultiMan you're good to go.
