Ok my ps3 cechc02's motherboard is being replaced with a reballed 3.55 fw cok-001 motherboard (from CECHA01, which is the hw bc 1) for constant ylod issues. I need to know which way is the best way to run ps2 backups on a ps3.
The way I ran backups before was to take off the case and swap the disk while its spinning from a higher toc disk to a lower toc disk. This worries me about the lasers life as the ps3's kes 400a laser is not very reliable at all. From what I have read up, the only way other than swapping the disk is through cobra usb or through an optical drive emulator like 3k3y. I would like to know is the cobra usb the best solution or would 3k3y be because it can run on any type of ofw, cfw (I would like to have rebug's features like dex fw features, cinavia removal, other os++ etc.) and don't tell me to get a ps2 as I have 2 of them and i'm running esr backups on them, i'd just like to play them on a ps3.

The Cobra ODDE is not out yet, so that's an unknown. Although the 3k3y can run on official firmware, you need to initially be on custom firmware to get your drive key. The disc swap you are describing sounds like a nightmare. I would go with the Cobra dongle, or wait to see if the scene produces a free solution. Word is there are several groups working on different solution for playing PS2 backups on the PS3.

I know cobra ode isn't released yet, but my ps3 motherboard im getting has 3.55 fw which I will install cfw no problem but I'm just a bit concerned about the cobra usb and the ode (well 3k3y at the moment). The ps1/ps2 game swap trick has been known since 2007 and I have hated doing it as you gotta take apart the blu-ray drive and I have broken the fragile sensor wires trying to take it out. My main concern about cobra usb is it doesnt have oos++, cinavia disable and dex features that are included with rebug which I would use and I don't want to change out cfw's constantly for them features but also my concern for the ode is it would be a hassle as it doesn't contain in-built disk ripper and would have to constantly take the ps3 apart just to connect to the pc to get my backups. Although I'll wait until my mobo arrives, we'll see whats available then.
