Greetings PSX-Scene members, I am new here and I am wondering what is the best way to jailbreak your Playstation 3? Give me your thoughts!
Good day all.
lol...i was just going to ask the same thing, as i've been waiting for the many different methods to calm down and feedback on them come reporting in.
@ Everyone who has jailbroken their PS3:
I would like to know what device was used and how it has performed so far for you. This would give users some info on making a better choice for their PS3.
Please tell us what you got:
- PS3 Model and HDD size used
- MCU DIY device , original PSJailbreak or clone brand
- easy to update via USB or require a programmer
If any problems you encountered would also help users to make a better choice.
Please no advertising for devices, just user feedback.
@fathermc

Hey no problem brother! What is helping me is helping you also! There is way too many methods but not many feedback from the community. Oh yes, and I have a PS3 Fat version. So please let us know of any updates and etc. It'd be kindSorry fathermc, i didnt mean to hijack your thread, but this is a benefit for not just you and me, but anyone else who might want to know too.![]()
Well, I have an old 40GB model with a 320GB hard drive from my now deceased laptop in it. I am using my old iPod video 5.5G with PSGroove and I could not be happier. I have a 2TB external drive as well, but I find that loading games from it is excruciatingly slow. I just transfer them to my internal drive when I want to play them and it's great. I hope you enjoy jailbreaking your PS3s!
@ nyrol
Thanks for the suggestions! Too bad I don't own a Ipod Video
The things I own right now are an Ipod Nano 4G, an Ipod Touch 2G and a TI-83+ calculator. If anyone knows a cheaper way to get it jailbreaked, please dont hesitate to let me know
Thank you.
Acquiring an iPod mini on ebay is fairly cheap. $10-$20 typically.
I have an launch 20GB that i'm using a TIAO 360 SPI flasher, and sometimes an iPod 5th Gen 30GB that I was about to toss (no sound output). I've had no problem with either, so far. Currently, the SPI flasher (and it's PIC) has the most features, but I suspect that will change in the future.
I have a 60 gig PS3 with a 320 gig passport. I use my IPhone to jailbreak, just to lazy and poor to afford a dongle. PSFreedom does enough what I want it to do. I would like to get a dongle soon though because I dont want to keep turning off my phone to boot into idroid and then turn it off and reboot into AppleOS. Kinda of a pain in my butt. Plus the timing has to perfect or it wont jailbreak.
60GB Launch PlayStation 3 upgraded to 500GB, Minimus loaded with PSGroove 1.1, and Backup Manager v1 (patched). I initially had a problem with Blackb0x's FTP server 1.1, it just didn't want to transfer my games over. Then I tried 1.0b and it's worked out great! I've FTP'd 20 games over from the PC and everyting is working perfectly.
The Minimus is super easy to program, just plug into PC and run FLIP programmer (Free download from ATMEL), load your hex and click a button. Done.
When I started following the PS3 scene and was deciding which device to buy, I found the Minimus was going to be released soon and I knew that's the one I had to have, due to it's size and construction quality (I own other Team Xecuter products).
I hope that helps and I'll be happy to elaborate on any details or answer any other questions.
PS3: 120GB Slim
Device: PICKit 2 clone (~$35US)
Upgradeable through the PICKit 2 software
Extra note: It's very easy to upgrade and can simply be done via. USB
