Updating to CFW without an official controller
Updating to CFW without an official controller –
Got myself a ps3 broken bluray for some homebrew, updated to OFW 3.55
and now i'm stuck....using an old usbcontroller which has all buttons except the PS button offcourse. Stuck at the "press the PS button" screen.
Is there any way to get passed this screen without a real control? Or shall i go annoy a friend to get the update installed.
And will i need an official controller for anything after i've installed some CFW?Else i'll just grab an official controller
You will need a controller with a PS button, either a Sony PS3 Dual Shock (2) or the Blu Ray Remote to get passed that step as shitty as that is,

I had this problem too, it was fine when we were still on 3.41 with dongles, but then 3.55 came out and I had to get a pad to install kmeaw properly.
Had to happen sometime though. : )
I have an old 12 buttons usb pc controller that I plugged in to test and it doesn't require me to press the PS button or anything, just go straight to the menu.
Thanks for the answers, seems i'm stuck :'( I might be able to lend a controller today!
Try updating, after the update you get a screen saying "update 3.55 .... press PS Button to continue

Did the PS button just fall out? or it doesn't work when pressed?
If it's out, just take a screw driver or something metal to short between contacts (button press) and that should get you going.. If it's still there, and feel like tearing the controller apart to press the button that would also work.
There is also the Kijiji/Craigslist option, around here 20-25$ for a used controller on kijiji..
