I only need to press eject once. Works every time.

true, you only need it once but if you're not in the right time frame it may not work and pressing more than once won't hurt it. It's overkill for the sake of simplicity

Version confusion... –
09-16-2010,07:27 AM
@adrenaline786:
I've been reading this thread for the first time today, and I'm a little confused by the download given in its first post, since I am using another version for the TI-84+ which seems to have been packed (and possibly produced) at a later date. Just one day, to be sure, but in this context that could make a big difference.
I'm talking about this file which I found in this thread in the 'Latest News' forum.
I've been using that TI-84+ application for six days now, and it works fine for me, but then I found this thread and noted that the application is different from the one I use, not only in being packed differently and on an earlier date, but also in having a different crc32 check value (as shown by WinRAR in inspecting the archive file).
So these are definitely different files, though identical in purpose.
Now my question is if they are somehow related or not, and if so if one is derived from the other, or if they are both independent developments based on Brandon Wilson's versions.
And of course, if either one has some particular advantage or disadvantage relative to the other, I'd also like to know your views on that.
Best regards: dlanor

Your description is a little unclear, but I think you may simply have misunderstood how it is supposed to work.
In the backup manager you do not start the game, you merely select it.
This selection causes the selected game to be 'mounted' for use as a virtual BDVD disc.
This virtual BDVD disc can then be launched in the same way as a normal BDVD game disc.
So when you are back in the XMB menu you move the cursor to the disc icon and check what game name it shows. And that name should then be the name of the HDD-installed game you selected when in the backup manager (thus exiting from it), even though the physical disc in the drive is NOT for that game at all. And if you then press 'X' on the gamepad with that icon selected, it is the selected game that will run from HDD.
That is how it works.
And here follows another description of the same thing, from a different 'angle':
The physical disc is needed mainly to make the console aware that some game disc is present, so it will add the disc icon to the game menu and allow a game to be started from it. But which game that will be is controlled by your choice in the backup manager.
If you choose one of the entries for HDD-installed games, then the backup manager will 'mount' that game for use in virtual BDVD access, and if you choose the entry representing the game on the physical disc then the backup manager will unmount its virtual disc use, to allow normal BDVD access to the physical game disc.

Hey dlanor, the file that is attached (and that I'm personally using) is the one located here (PSGroove Ported to TI-84 Calculator!) . It was the first modified verion of 0.02.0001 PS3JB to have backup manager enabled, and since the guide was put up shortly after that I just attached that version.
I repacked it and renamed it, just to make it easier for people to understand- as the original RAR archive came with the original and modified version.
The two should be identical in what they do, but If you'd like, I can attach the same version you linked to- it'll help keep things uniform I suppose.

Are all other USB devices unplugged? Try pulling the battery out of the calculator and trying again?

Perhaps you are making the same mistake that I made a few times, of thinking that the calculator is ready to go from 'done' to a new state of 'working' by itself, which it won't do... And you did not mention doing anything with the calculator, as needed.
After finishing one successful session, with PS3 again turned off to standby, before you can proceed with a new jailbreak procedure you must first return the calculator to the state it had when you started the first one, with the text on the calculator screen telling you to proceed with connection to PS3 (not just the remnant "Working... done" text from a previous session).
You can get back there in two ways, the most obvious of course being to turn the calculator off+on and starting over from scratch to launch the PS3JB application. I did that a lot at first, because I didn't know that a better way was available. But here is how I proceed nowdays, saving some effort.
1: PS3 is in standby state after ending a previous jailbreak session.
2: I look at the calculator, and if in screensaved state I push the "ON" button to wake it.
3: With calculator showing the remnant "Working... done" message, I push the "APPS" button.
4: The calculator then shows the message about connecting to PS3, and is now ready for new jailbreaking.
5: I turn off mains power from the PS3 and then turn it on again
(using an extension cord with circuit breaker for its outlet)
6: I push the 'On/Standby' button of the PS3 followed by repeated jabbing of 'Eject'
7: Calculator proceeds with "Working..." and "Done" and PS3 is jailbroken again.
For me this works every time (except if I forget some step of course
)
