thanks so much just two more questions.
1. How do you transfer games from the external to the internal?
I plan on backing up all my games, too much for my external even though I upgraded it a while back, and would like to be able to have a running queue on my ps3 internal. Meaning I'll backup mostly to an external and load onto the internal the ones I plan on playing at the time.
2. If my ps3 is on a firmware before 3.41 does this still work or must it be at 3.41 only?
I haven't updated it in a long time so I'm not sure where it's at right now but thought to ask just in case. I know updating now through sony would go to 3.42 and break this so I obviously don't want to do that.
Can't wait to go home and load up my ti84 calculator to try this all out!

Connect to PS# power on hit eject calculator says working then in top right of PS# screen says USB device not recognized and the calculator never moves from working.

You need to do a hard power reset.
I hard reset it multiple times still the same thing any other sugestions
why would it say unrcognized on the PS3 screen
you shouldn't even be able to see the XMB...
1) plug out ps3
2) plug in ps3
3) press power button
4) press (hold works better tough) eject button
calculator should say working... and within 5 seconds it should say "done"

which had all the firmware files with explanations so I grabbed the correct 3.41 and it took a couple tries but I got it. It had to be under a folder and not on the root of the usb drive that got me.
I got backup manager and ftp server is working great. I can confirm that cuteftp version 8.3.2 (is the one I have) connects great to the ps3.
Haven't tried playing a backup game yet I had to go to sleep so I'm backing up now.
I think I found the directory to put games in the ps3 from my computer. It's
dev_hdd0/game/LAUN12345/GAMEZ
right? Is that where the ps3 will save them too?
