Is there an MKV player out there?
Is there an MKV player out there? –
Hey guys, now that the ps3 has been hacked, is there a homebrew mkv player out there? I know about programs such as PS3 media server and MKV2VOB but I don't want those. I just want to load an MKV file onto the ps3 and play it with no problems. The reason is my computer is really slow so when I use ps3 media server it's just really laggy.
Is there such a program? Or when will there be one?
It's being worked on and is 40% done ...
WIP: PS3 Media Center - MKV and NTFS Support
Some of the folks over at the Elotrolado forums, are working on a project that many of you have been hoping for. It is a media center, with support for MKV and NTFS. The app is still early in development (approximately 40%) so there is no download available yet

★ Playing Videos
★ Picture Playback
★ Support NTFS and MKV
People involved in the project:
★ AdriHades - contributor and tester
★ Chaky - GUI Builder

Current Project Status:

oh really...that would surely be one of the most welcomed homebrews!
I agree, I have a couple of externals with movies and tv shows and its a pain having to convert everything from mkv to mpg or avi.
I'm sorry call me a skeptic but I call fake. NTFS support on the PS3 in the same project as MKV and at 40%?. Fake. NTFS support has been buggy as hell in linux which PS3 has heavy roots in and there's no way in heck it's even remotely 40%. Now if it's PC side and streams to PS3 yea I believe it. But if it's run completely on the PS3 I call fake.
Anyone wanting to develop some type of NTFS like file system on the PS3 would have much better luck with ext or something similar. There's no way they could be 40% on both of those MAJOR features. Call me a skeptic until I see code that can be compiled in the form of a beta.
linux has proper ntfs support since at least few years, thanks to ntfs-3g.
also, some linux based media players use ntfs internally (yeah, sounds weird but it's true).
If they can make an NTFS MKV Media player for the Wii, Im pretty sure they can make one for the PS3. I can't wait to see this one released.
This is good news! –
Thanks for the info guys!
For a project like this to be at 40% I would have to immagine that with NTFS support at this early stage I would NEVER enable writing to the drive.. Especially a first release to a new platform.. I openly welcome read support though That would make my life easier!
