I was wondering, since there is already some limited support for NTFS, can something similar be done with HFS+?

OSX users need some love, too

Yes, it is possible, but no-ond has mase it yet. The easiest solution for you would be to use ntfs on your external drive, then install an ntfs driver on your mac. I've had great success with Ntfs-3G( read+write support )

since the linux kernel has an open-source implementation of read/write to non-journaled HFS+ file systems, i dont see why it would be extremely difficult, same with ext4 and so on. you just have to find a developer willing to do it.
