I personally think that kakaroto is right.
We need one payload that working with any firmware.
And this is what PL3 come to do.
The right way? it's your choice.
I completely agree. PL3 is the way the to go moving forward.
Ahhh. It doesn't use the same CPU as iPods or H10 or Sansa series. That must be why it probably won't work. I still have an iPod, was just hoping for something that I could leave attached to my PS3.

DanyL I have a question, the last binaries that you made with the latest PL3, the diskless mode in /app_home/ps3_game... works fine?(I haven't tested), the icon appears in app_home...? because I have noticed an strange thing right now.
Recently I bought a minimus 32 to play with it, and I have compile the psgroove-pl3 and the diskless mode worked o.O, so... if is the same PL3 in the ipod have to work to..., and I've noticed too that the psgroove-pl3 uses the prebuilt pl3, so I copied to the rockbox path(/firmware/usbstack...) and edit the config.h (if you don't change the compilation fails). compiled fine, tested with my ipod, and wolfenstein again appears in the icon and executes fine.
edit: to clarify, when I compile all from scrtach (pl3 included) the diskless mode doesn't work (gaia r7) the icon of app_home... doesn't change to the game icon, and if I ran then thrwos me an 8... error, but with the pl3 prebuilt works fine xD
Where did you get the prebuilt pl3 from? I'd like to try it myself.
I think your right though because diskless mode works in PL3 on all the other ports apart form the Rockbox port so there must be something not quite right in the way the PL3 payload is compiling for us at the moment.
OK i found the problem.
The compilations of our pl3 are fine, the problem is the commit of the submodule that rockbox-psgroove has, the submodule that gets from github is old, I mean when we do this:
that commit (b37b59507d3ada496060c2f307b0bb2356e3a0de) is old.
slok@sLoKPC:rockbox_psgroove$ git submodule update
Submodule path 'firmware/usbstack/pl3': checked out 'b37b59507d3ada496060c2f307b0bb2356e3a0de'
so if we dont update the submodule and after obtaining the rockbox-psgroove we do
now the compilation will work and the diskless mode will work too (i've only tested with wolfenstein and gaia r7)
$ git clone git://github.com/kakaroto/PL3.git ./firmware/usbstack/pl3
do you delete the old pl3 repo before you clone in the new one?
Also what changes do you make to the config.h? I just want to make sure I'm making the same changes so I can replicate what you found.
the pl3 isn't created until you do the
so if you start with a new "git clone...rockbox-psgroove" there's no pl3 directory.
$ git submodule init
$ git submodule update
If you have get the submodule in the past, delete the directory.
uncomment in config.h the firmware that you want to build, nothing else
rm -rf ./firmware/usbstack/pl3
Ok I'm running a new compile now.
Odd thing is I did pretty much what you described there already and diskless mode still didnt work. the onyl difference in what I did was that I cloned the PL3 repo to a different directory, compiled it and then moved the new PL3 dir into the "rockbox_psgroove/firmware/usbstack" folder. So really its the same thing. Anyway lets see what happens now. I'll post a new Video5G file for someone to test in a few minutes. I need some sleep so I'll check back for the results in the morning.
