Re: PS3 drive partitioning
Re: PS3 drive partitioning –
Question, in the old days I installed YDL and told it to use all drive space minus 10 gig (I was being adventurous, going to get in to linux but it never ended up happening).
Now I am on 3.41, what happened to that space? Did the PS3 magically recover it or is it just sitting there on a partition I can't get to?
How do I recover this space if that is the case? I am currently running 3.41 with X3Max, PL3, Gaia.
Will a format do the trick?
Back when 3.21 came out, I remember reading on PS3News that the linux-partitioned space was actually rendered inaccessible by GameOS after updating. It was one of the many reasons people were furious at Sony at the time.
I believe there was a warning before updating the firmware that you should delete your linux partition first. I did when I updated mine, and I still have all my space. Mind you, I've since upgraded my 60GB hard rive to a 500GB one, so it's all moot. That's always an option if you're short too much.
So I have been reading up on this now and it appears that a full format will remove the partition however, if I backup my stuff then restore it it will restore the partition.
Being that I have jailbroken my PS3, would it be an option for me to manually backup everything in the HDD and restore it later via FTP?
I wonder if there is some hidden certificates or something somewhere for the programs I have bought from the PSN (I spent loads of cash on there in the old days, I don't wanna lose it all)
Alternatively I spose I could find downloadable versions of everything I have bought and just reinstall them on the PS3, I don't really care about trophies or saved games etc.
I can't continue as is though, I gave Linux ALL the space minus 10 GB, ie my PS3 only has 10GB on it .
