Long time reader, first time posting. I have been following what has been going on and trying to keep up on the various managers and methods for doing various things, but I have having some issues with two things. Searching is leaving me with dead ends – maybe I am not looking for the right thing, but I am sure there are answers out there.

First let me provide you with my setup – it may make these question have some sense to them.

    • Fat PS3 with 3.41 FW
    • PS3Key with 2.3 FW
    • External HDD for Game Backups (I have backed up all my games to this – nothing is on my internal drive at all)

I have the following Homebrew installed:

    • Backup Manager 2
    • Open Manager 1.6
    • BlackBox FTP 1.1b

    My Questions:

    1. Some of the games that I have backed up with either Backup Manager 2 or Open Manager 1.6 want to update themselves with a newer version of software. I will proceed to download the update but upon installing I am presented with an error message it will say that it cannot install. How can I get these updates?

    2. All of the games I backed up with Open Manager 1.6 that are larger than the 4GB limit on my external hdd have a “_” prefix on the game folder. Inside these games I find that there are psarc files that are split with the following extensions:

      66600
      66601
      66602, etc., etc.

How do I get these games to work? I have tried looking for ways to join these files but am having issues. I prefer to keep as many of my backups on the external hdd as possible. Not sure if this is something that can be done or not. Clarification on this would be greatly appreciated.

On the flip side to this question… I have also backed up some games with Backup Manager 2 – what does it do with game files larger than 4GB? I did not see any changes to file names in the list… again need some clarification here.

I use a mac, but can boot into windows if needed to run any tools. Some of my games work some don’t. I believe I have what I need (maybe minus a few tools I’m sure) to complete this with a little help. Thanks for any help you can give.

I am looking for an answer on the game updates question from the OP as well.

I think I can answer your second question about PSARC files. These files are created during the backup to your external drive because Backup Manager can only handle FAT32 formatted external drives, which have a file size limit of 4GB. In order to get them to work, I believe the only answer is to copy those games to the internal hard drive. Unless the games work from your external drive, which it is claimed they do. Otherwise don't worry about the PSARC files.

Ya. The update thing is not letting me play a good portion of the games...

I understand the 4GB limit in the FAT32 Filesystem... I am just curious how to get the split files to work... In Open Manager 1.6 "_BLUS-XXXXXXX" is greyed out... you cannot select it to play... so it is ripped, just not playable.

I woudl assume someone out there has dealt with ripping a game with files larger than 4GB to the external drive and then altering them in someway (either by FTP or another method) to make them work.

Any one have a tutorial about this?
