question about playing games from external and splitting

So im curious if it is possible to play games from the external that have been split. I split a game and put it on my external, and tried to run it like that but OBM 1.13 told me i cannot play split games, so i just copied it to the HDD internal, and played iut from there.

But my question is, is there a way to split them and still play from the external?

If is has to be split put it on the internal drive, all the games that don't need to be split put on external drive. Scene will come up with a new file system one day.
