PSGroove without cold boot (power switch or unplug)?

Currently, PSGroove requires you to first power off the PS3 (via power switch on PS3 fat or unplugging power on the slim). Would it be theoretically possible to remove this requirement? I'm guessing not, since cold booting puts the PS3 in some state that allows a jig (and hence PSGroove) to execute from USB.

Alternatively, is it possible to put the PS3 into this special state programmatically? Say, from a homebrew app?

Anyways, just thought I'd ask. It would be nice for the sake of convenience, not having to unplug/plug my slim or flip the power switch on a surge protector. Yes, I'm lazy :)
