PSFreedom on Palm Pre Issues
PSFreedom on Palm Pre Issues –
09-07-2010,05:21 PM
I've used the guide for Palm Pre to install the modified Backup Manager on my ps3. I've ripped a game to the internal hard drive, and played it without any issues whatsoever. When I rip a game to the external drive, the game starts, but between 30 seconds and 2 or 3 minutes, the game hangs. It acts as if the USB drive got disconnected from the system. If I restart my ps3, I have to power on/off the external and reconnect it to have it recognized by my ps3 again.
I figured they may have been a problem with the hard drive, so I swapped it out with a new hard drive and encountered the same error. I tried both hard drives with a different external enclosure, and had the same error. I deleted backup manager and reinstalled it, no change. I also tried recompiling and putting PSFreedom back on my phone, with no change in behavior. Just before posting, I tried formatting/restoring the ps3 to default settings, but again no change.
On one external enclosure, the LED light goes from staying on to a continuous blinking light, which I assume means its disconnected. On the other you can hear the hard drive spinning down and spinning back up. On one occasion I was able to turn the external drive off, and back on, and the game continued for a few minutes before the same error occurred. Restarting the drive after this error didn't help.
I've also tried 5 different games, that were all marked as compatible on the spreadsheet floating around. I have two chips coming in this week so I can try using those versus my phones, but I'm curious if anyone has encountered this problem or have any ideas on what to try. 2 enclosures, 2 hard drives, full format, and I'm out of ideas. Again, games on internal drive works great.
Appreciate any help.

mmmm I can't help but assume it's an issue with your external hard drives. I mean if the hack works it works, that's it, it shouldn't make a difference whether it's via the palmpre, calculator, a usb board or any of the other devices.

Generally this means your external HDD is spinning down or goes into a power save mode. Some drives do not do this.

Turns out I might be an idiot. I switched USB cables, and I've been playing a game for the external drive for about 15 minutes. I'm still a little cautious, but it may have been the simplest of the solutions.I just skipped this step because I've never had a problem with a cable before. Hopefully this is it. I appreciate the help and suggestions.
