ps3 factory service mode question
ps3 factory service mode question –
Im just curious about this because I know some ps2 games work in it on non-BC ps3 models but since sony's ps2 software emulator has been made better since 3.55fw could it run alot more ps2 games now in 4.25fw. I know you can only get out by flashing the nand or nor chips but im just wondering about this because I have many games that have speed issues on my 60gb pal which is the one that only had the ps2 gpu yet you can buy them on psn which have 0 speed issues (wtf sony). Im just thinking about doing this on my slim because it would be good to just put in my ps2 games instead of buying them on psn. Also if i were to go into factory service mode, what can I and can't I do in it. (sorry if i posted in the wrong section)
I'm not sure if compatibilty would be better on higher firmwares for non-BC models but on 3.55 they boot but aren't playable, Resident Evil 4 does about 1 frame per second
I might as well get an American or Japanese 60gb with the Emotion Engine with 3.55fw thats my speed problems solved. I thought about this because some games downloaded on psn work great like GTA3 for an example, runs ok on 3.55 fw on non-bc models, when the iso was released on psn, 60fps 100% time and ps2 games released on psn are completely identical to the disks bit by bit so it's obvious Sony has optimised the emulator (exception of hd collections/remakes as these are converted to utilize full ps3 hardware)
The PS2 games on PSN are recoded to run natively on the PS3. Because there is little to no emulation, they can be played at 100% speed.

It really depends on the graphical needs of the games I guess.
Even on the Xbox 360 there are some Xbox 1 games that don't fully run the same as they do on the native hardware.
I really do believe that the PS2 Classics on PSN aren't remade to run natively on the PS3 as the PS3 slims still have the PS2 emu on them and there are reports that some PS2 games run better on later firmware in factory service mode.
I'd have to get a PS2 Classic and compare it's contents to the disc version to get a better understanding of what Sony has done.
when 1 of my mates downloaded gta3 on psn, the exact same size as the ps2 iso 4.35gb so they just uploaded an iso. I have done further investigation and if you put ps2 games that arent released on psn on the latest fw, if you tried to boot it, it would say game is not supported not this ps3 console cannot play ps2 games or whatever it's suppose to say. I mean come on, the cell has 7 threads and that can emulate the EE and the graphics synthensizer (only 4mb graphics memory) does barely anything and that could easily be emulated by the RSX (which has 256mb memory). I believe Sony is ripping us off because the ps3 has like 35x power than the ps2, surley it can emulate it so im not going to believe the people that say 'oh it was remade for the ps3'. Sony are making the ps2 emulator like how microsoft made the xbox emulator for the xbox 360, which is full software emulation and they focused on every individual game, so it won't work perfectly and takes lots of time to completely optimise it for all the games.
