I have a ps3 with a broken drive (board broken) that is JB with xplain board. Which Backup Loader has the most compatibility without the use of the drive?

I tried V2 and I haven't gotten 1 game to work with hermes-xplain.hex. All of my games boot to the XMB

Have you given the open source Backup manager a go? It just got released very recently and I believe it can run games without required a disc inside :S. With that said I don't think the compatibility actually varies between different backup managers except for the disc version and non-disc version.

I tried the Azergaz V3 backup loader and at least a few games booted so now I know the hex file is good. Is there any other versions of the backup loader? I swear, I thought we were on V2 and today I see there are 4 versions. This scene is moving quickly.

Having similar issues - FAT PS3, jail broke with psfreedom via droid incredible. Installed Open Backup Manager, launching GOW collection kicks me to XMB.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Also, BD drive is dead in this one.

It kicks you to the XMB after selecting the game in the backup manager?

If that's the case, look for the disc icon under games.

I tried that a few times, but it doesn't show up. I got really excited once as I had the GoW 3 demo downloaded from awhile ago and saw that. Then frowny face.

Thanks for the tip though man. Think I am going to try a few more loaders when i have time.

Also, even though it can't read BR media, I'm going to borrow a game from someone and try anyways. I can't keep my phone hacked because it kills a lot of the functionality. So it's a PITA. Thought about just leaving the PS3 on all the time.

Hi , I thought no programs/homebrew or even demos would run without a working drive? if posters here are getting programs like FTPserver and awesome filemanager to run can you tell me what hex files/jailbreak device/homebrew you are running, also what exactly is wrong with drives, ie laser/board/completly missing? ive a 60gb which had a dead laser and i cant get anything to run, i can jailbreak,i can install packages but everytime i run 1 screen just goes blank?

it would probably crash after awhile.snes crashes sometimes if you have a dodgy rom, also backup manager crashes if you try to exit with the ps button through xmb, exits fine if you press triangle though, firmloader also crashes console if there is any typos in rcos or xmls

Demos work on mine just fine. I can launch Open Manager but it kicks me back to the xmb when i try to load a game. I used open manager to copy gow collection from USB drive to PS3 HD. Still didn't work. I haven't messed around with it too much more. I figured I would just wait for a new version of psfreedom.

    Edit:
AFAIK the only issue with mine is the blu ray laser. It can read other discs.

ok, thanks, I replaced the laser in mine but now i cant get it to read any disks, friend of mine said alot of lasers from china are duds on arrival and not sony parts.I thought if the circuit board was intact it would be ok.Anyone know if the clock/loading symbol would spin when inserting disk if board/drive was wrong, I think I read that drive wouldnt interface with XMB at all if it was changed? anyone know more about this issue? Im getting the loading symbol but disk never spins, if I take top off drive i can see red laser come on for about 1 second and then goes off, drive never makes any attempt to spin, loading symbol stays spinning for up to a minute sometimes.
