Microsoft Owns Patent for In-Game Custom Soundtracks | RipTen Videogame Blog :) how does it not make sense, was it the way i worded it, or the concept?
"Again guys, this patent is for the “method”, which is programming jargon. A method is a snippet of code which completes a particular task. ie. launch custom soundtracks. This method is exclussive to the programming language used on the 360. So this patent makes perfect sense, they own the patent for game launching on that system as well. The author of this article is lacking in programming/legal knowledge and shouldn’t have written this article. All that will come out of this article are fanboys and uninformed public spouting out rumours about how M$ can charge Sony and restrict them from making in-game soundtracks public. You CANNOT patent anything as vague as in-game soundtracks on any console as Microsoft has definately not programmed for the PS3 and cannot patent something that has not even been created yet. This article is crap…read my posts before responding or even reading the above article."
6th comment down on that link.
Sony added in game custom music in firmware 2.40.It is up to the game developers to include it.
but you can patent just about anything... sony have patented some methods of viewing a soccer pitch in a game, and other ridiculous stuff. patents are free to look up, find some of them! do you not think that sony would have done it if they could?... it is not just that website, or the author of the article, the same 'fact is on many websites.

They didn't patent 'In Game Music', you can't do that, they patented a specific way of doing it.
Who gives a shit about patents anyway.....
I don't think you'll be able to enable BGM on every game, because surely the game will have to call the BGM player. If this isn't programmed in, there'll be no way to do it, no?
Editing the param.sfo to enable bgm does not work. Ive tried it with many, many games. Ive said it before though, and I'll say it again - on the PSP, somebody made a plugin for custum firmware that allows custom soundtracks to be played for all games. The size of it is extremely small at 44 kb. I don't understand with the similarities between the ps3 and the psp why such a simple script cannot be done on the ps3 with custom firmware as well. Enclosed is the psp music.prx with the source code in case somebody with skills can look at it and figure it out.
I love how this thread became a bunch of ***'s talking about patents and bullshit. shut the **** up, no one cares who mushroom stamped it first. What the OP and all of us HERE on a hacking site wish to know is if anyone has or is working on a way to enable playback of music during games and things, things that currently the XMB sucks loldongs at. Just like the Xbawks 720 and the PSP, both of which now have that ability, we want to know of any developments on the ps3 homebrew scene, not hear about which companies lEgal-penis is bigger because they own the patent. God damn
