Can someone explain to me the difference between the 2 of these? They are both payloads, right? Is PL3 just the newest payload available? This stuff is getting confusing

Yes, they are both payloads offering the same thing.
Certain people have issues with PL3 hence a lot of negative posts.

    PL3 also has other firmware support (3.01, 3.10, 3.15 & 3.41). Hermes is for 3.41.

Try both and whichever one has the most compatibilty for you, stick with that one.

PL3 is a collaboration of different devs designed to give the best of everything (eventually) so it will become the standard, whereas Hermes was coded by one person (Hermes obviously).

Hernes is now supposed to be working with Kakaroto (PL3) so the PL3 payload will get better and better.

    Cheers,
    JonahUK.

Games that are installed with Hermes are not compatible with PL3 as I understand it and since PL3 is in development, the choice should be easy.

Which is why I stated to try both. What works for me or you may not work for lennie.

Incorrect. You can install games with Hermes and play them with PL3 just fine. You can't use Backup Manager 1.0/1.1 with PL3 though. Open Manager works with both payloads just fine.

I would say PL3 (new version), because the Hermes payload uses some funny hacks that gives its applications higher permissions so that these may not always work. Hence the eboot.bin error, when trying to boot some games.

Hermes patched mode corrected some of these errors, thats why more games worked, and ALL the games you uploaded while in patched mode works with the new PL3.

Problem games lige eyepet move, also work out of the box with this new load, and none of my games have failed yet, after I have reupped my stuff.

the manager probably isn't the issue, it's the permissions in the install data

some recent tests have found that PL3 more closely mimics unjailbroken behavior

When the new OM collaboration gets released I'm switching to it and PL3 exclusively after restoring my system

did you need to ftp eyepet with patched mode on?
that's the only way I could get it to work with PL3 or Hermes V4

Earlier yes, I also needed to transfer the game with patched mode on. But with the new PL3 I can just transfer the game with no worries about the permission thing.

The only problem was that the savegame created with the Hermes load also had permission problem, so I reuploaded that one.

Either way, they both go in the PSGroove folder on my Ipod, right? I can have only one or the other in there, right?
