I'v made a board with an 8mhz oscilator using the MCHPUSB BTL but there is no firmware for 8mhz, is it ok to mod an existing one with the PICFLASH software or will it mess with the file, like winpic800?

    Sory for my poor english.

    Hey guys
Can anyone please tell me if there are any major differences between psgroopic 1.2 and latest one 1.4, coz at the moment I got pic18f2550 with bootloader and psgroopic 1.2 installed at 20mhz, and the only problem is that sometimes I have to reboot up to 3-4 times to get it working but apart from that it's working good. Should I upgrade to 1.4 (with psgroove 1.1) or stay at 1.2?
Sorry if that's a stupid question but I just can't seem to find psgroove 1.1 changelog anywhere ...
    Cheers!!!

I'm trying to do it on a breadboard, with a 18F2550, 2 questions: Any breadboard schematics to make it a little easier for me to understand? And 2, does the connection to the PC (to test it) have to be USB 1.0? Or can it be tested with USB 2.0?

    Using this schematic: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_fvremgaSIx...8F2550V1.2.png
    Using an 8 MHz Oscillator.
Flashed the chip with a JDM programmer (in winpic800, with Elsemi's file 1.4) Verify while programming option was on, flash went thru fine twice. hex file used was this: http://www.sendspace.com/file/8amq6o

I tried to connect it, nothing, seems my breadboarding skills suck. Like I said, a breadboard diagram would help a ton, I'm using an a-h board with 2 power strips (one on each side)

EDIT: The oscillator I got had 2 legs not 3, does that make a difference?

EDIT 2: I hooked it up, sometimes I'd get a flashing LED, this last time the Pic chip heated up something fierce, took the USB out as fast as I could but can't tell if I fried it since I don't have the pic programmer any more. Any way to check ? Why would it heat up that way?

Great job skygunner, really great job. I have this board:
    -Pic18f2550
    -Led on B1
    -Jumper on C0
    -20MHz oscillator
I have modified my board for MP's bootloader (put only jumper on B7) and flashed my pic with Bootloader_MCHPFSUSB- BTL-pin28-RB7 20MHz custom by MP and 18Fx550-20mhz-RB1 (bootloader version). It work very well. I have a question: Where can i download the source file of this bootloader (MCHPFSUSB- BTL-pin28-RB7 20MHz custom by MP) to make some change? I try to work on .hex (disassembled with MPlab) but is very hard... to work with the source code would be easier. Thanks in advance for answers.

Can someone take a look at my art2003 programmer? It always shows Error Hardware not responding when i do a hardware test. If i put the pic in and do a device test. It says detected unknown.
Can Someone take a look at my art2003 programmer?

I've tried on 3 different pc, running winxp sp3, intel and amd , standard parallel port spp. Is my soldering too thick or whats wrong? I've checked all the connection, there isnt any loose connection or breakage. I've clear all the loose strands of copper wire. Still not detecting art2003 and pic18f2550. I need help thanks.

    Hi!
Can anyone please post the source code or the modifications needed to compile the hex for the MCHPUSB bootloader? I'm using SparkFun's UBW. I think it would suffice changing the PLL to PLL6, LED pin to C0, and code offset to 0x800, but I'd like to be sure because I don't have an ICSP programmer in case I do something wrong. Am I missing something else?

I'd like to test Hermes payload and any future update without having to wait for someone to compile it. Thx!
