Except I moved the bootloader switch to RB7 (Pin40) and customized the code.
http://www.create.ucsb.edu/~dano/CUI/ is quite a good read if you actually want to learn how it works.
If you build the circuit exactly like the one in that picture, you can use the bootloader.hex from the "CUI Example Code". Then just install your LED on RC0, RB0, RB1 or RD0 etc and use one of the available hex code files.
I have the PIC18F4550 and might have 2550 but I/SO..somewhere - do I understand it correctly? - is I/SO only smaller, but still the same chip?
I'm glad I found this great thread, though I just want a simplest Jailbreak. So which schematics should I use? I'm building my art2003 now so I'm gonna be using this to program the PIC.
Also I will be using 8mhz crystal. The less parts I have to solder the less dissapointment at the end :P I could do with just one LED so I know what is happening.
Now, I'm running Windows 7 x64, will WinPic work? Eventually Windows XP Mode from within the win7? Or should I just start installing win xp already? :P
I'm also gonna be using an on board LPT port (pins). I hope that shouldn't be a problem?
I was gonna use the PSGrooPIC schematics with 8MHz crystal, so is there HEX available to download ready for my configuration? Perhaps with a bootloader?
Can I treat ie 470nF as 0.47uF?

everyting works.. only led not working.. led on b5 nr 26.. use PSgrooPIC1.3_18F2550_8MHz_NOMCLR_B5-LEDR_noBTL.zip (11.2 KB, 19 views) and schema 1.1 and art2003..

The correct LED pin out for a board needs to be defined in the source code before compile, otherwise the LED won't work.
This apply to both firmware and bootloader.
So you need to find the firmware with LED definition match your board, but even LED doesn't work, jailbreak will sill work.)

This is slightly different form ISB 360 scheme, i think you can use the bootloader from ISP 360 scheme if you have 12 Mhz, skygunner postet on first page.

Nevermind, seems that main.hex from illnes posted by skygunner is not programing with PDFSUSB. other psgroopic is flashing
