Newbie question

If i buy a new hard drive from the store. Will the ps3 format it or do i need to use a laptop to format it. Just want to make sure before i get a new one. Because the on forum said i would have to put an update on external hard drive to be able to format it on the ps3.

You can insert the new drive in the ps3 and format it. Or you can backup your existing internal hard drive to a fat32 external, insert the new drive, format it and copy your backed up profile to the new drive.

Thats what i thought thanks. Just was worried because i read somewhere it would not anymore.
