New to the PS3 Scene

hi everyone im new to the PS3 Jailbreaking Scene, i have just purchased a PS3 slim 120, i was hoping to simply jailbreak it to install XBMC on it so that i can stream my media from my SAN to my TV, i know the PS3 is DLNA capable but i dont want to have to install heaps of software on either my PC or my SAN (linux) id prefer it just to work like it does now with my current setup.

my PS3 Slim 120 is on the 4.21 OFW im presuming i will need to downgrade the Firmware to 3.55 ?? with a E3 flasher if im correct ?

are there any tools that i can use to make a USB jailbreak dongle or do i have to purchase from the interwebs

Well, If you purchased a brand new PS3 from a a retailer such as Best Buy and it came with 4.21 OFW, It is not a good idea to downgrade to 3.55 you have to have a PS3 that came with 3.55 firmware or below. Too risky you would probably brick your PS3.

check your date code on the back then google it an you can find out which firmware you are able to downgrade to.

i checked on the ps3 dev wiki and my model is on the list its a CECH-3002A which says i can go down to 3.60 YAY so next question what will allow me to do this the E3 or something else or can i do this withou having to spend any extra $$

Sorry to break it, but 3.60 cannot be jailbroken. If you absolutely want to jailbreak it, I would return it and try to find one second hand that can go down to 3.55. Otherwise you would be waiting a very long time for a 3.60 jailbreak, if one ever comes ( not terribly likely).

Dude, im new aswell, and in the sense of modding im lucky to have the non slim version

From what i know (not allot so far) its much harder to mod slim ps3's but not impossible

There is app its calle dchecker or something like that.

You put it on USB, and go to UPDATE FIRMWARE ...

It will give you an answer wich is the lowest firmeare you can go.

If its 3.60, sorry, no can do 3.55CFW ...

All you can do is to hope that someone will do CFW for newer ....

In my country, used ones are same price as new. Or even more .
