I'm doing something wrong and could use some help.....
Ok, so Minimus AVR with Hermes v3 and OpenManager 1.16.
If I take my purchased game and first boot the playstation without the AVR, the PS3 installs the update and I can play from disk.
If I then take the game and backup using Open Manager and back it up to the HDD0. If I then select the backup and go to /PS3_GAME/ in XMB, I either get a freeze or I get an error when I try to start. I get this with the disc in OR out.
This is happening on every game I have tried so far.
What am I doing wrong???

Game updates can get messy, I had the same issue. Delete all of them from game data utility then try another backup manager, Rogero manager works better than the other managers for me.
Just load your games with your AVR to backup and play. Leave the updates until a reliable solution is found.

Short version: Delete your Game Data before ripping your games.
Long version: I'm using the same setup you are, and I'm not having problems... I have the newest Hermes V3 Waninkoko/Mathieulh patch, OM1.16 and PermissionsFix PKG.
If you want to back up a game you own, first delete any Game Data. I haven't had to delete my save games, they seem to have no effect leaving them in place. Then rip the game, run the game and let it update when the game finds one. If you are using the above hex file, you shouldn't have any problems updating (JB Mode, obviously). I just booted Dead Rising 2 and updated to version 1.01 using the above procedure and it worked immediately after updating, and after a full system reboot. Game Data for Dead Rising 2 shows version 1.01.
Also, for what it's worth, I had the Heavy Rain 2.0 patch installed previous to owning a Minimus, but when I ripped the game from my BD Disc, I had to overwrite the update's EBOOT with the modified EBOOT from the Japanese Debug Update to make it work (with Move support, too).
I attached all the files I mentioned below, let me know if I can help you out any further, good luck!
