Enabling USB and running a script????
BaaaAHHH!! I have several usb sticks, one with a pendrive linux boot (ubuntu)
All I want is to run a GUI Linux distro and play my backups on my CFW PS3. Is that too much to ask????
meh.... I have rebug 3. 55. 2 otherOS++ , I have Ubuntu, Red Ribbon and kubuntu GUI distros.
Another has my CFW/PS3 directory and files and the tools used below are on the root of this 16GB ScanDisc USB
I ran the instructions to load the other OS given on the gitbrew wiki... (I cannot post links yet, U can find it) installing the packages,
...all went to plan and I got into the Linux kernell after my first petiboot load (step 9 in the instruction set) :wow:
KNowing nothing of console or shell scripting (one of many reasons I am trying to get this working) I could not for the life of me Execute or even find the script in question (Step 10)
:chinscrat: I gave up for a day and the kernell froze after no activity for 24hrs. I rebooted with the XMB warning to shut down properly next time
or the USB directory, as this is where I had it stored
Do I have to start all the steps again?
Or can I just run the boot otherOS package and Reboot package from the XMB and end up back in petiboot and return to the kernell to pick up where I left off?
Obviously I need to copy the script onto the root of the kernell from the USB, which I gather I must mount first (HTFk???) before I can execute it... Right?
I then wish to install my GUI from either USB or CD/DVD... directly. I believe this can be done... apparently is easier than using petiboot as installer as long as you know the right partition / ps3dd .
How would I achieve this exactly given the point I am at and since the otherOS menu option is not available in the XMB, which I assumed was the purpose of this hack ...
I wish also to format and start AGAIN! Can I do this from CFW system menu safely and smooth out the partitions made to start from scratch?
I know how NOOBSTER I look posting these idiotic misfortunes in my 1st attempt at hacking :shhh: ... anything properly. But please...
HELP! HELP! HELP!
I really want to learn and am picking up more and more each day but explanations in understandable language for beginners are scarce or out of date.
Or how bout we KISS it...
Install OtherOS on HDD (for all PS3 models)
NOTICE: All my tools should beep. If you don't get beep during one of the steps below
then stop doing anything and contact me. I will help.
ALL PS3 MODELS ARE SUPPORTED !!!
1. Install my latest CFW
2. When installation is finished, reboot in Recovery Mode (not the Backup/Restore in XMB) and choose "Restore PS3 System"
3. Now your GameOS should use only the half of your HDD
(Currently working on a better approach)
4. Run setup_ flash _ for_ otheros. pkg (for all PS3 models)
5. Reboot (It's important to shut down and turn on your PS3)
6. Store dtbImage. ps3 . bin on USB drive, plug it in and run install_otheros. pkg
(NAND owners should use dtbImage. ps3 . bin. minimal, rename it to dtbImage. ps3. bin) .
Try different USB ports if you don't get any beeps.
7. Run boot_ otheros. pkg
8. Run reboot. pkg (use the package, not manually reboot!)
9. You should be in petitboot now.
Exit from CUI to shell or switch to another virtual console.
10. Run script create _hdd _region. sh (This is where the wheels came off!!HOW DO I PROCEED to GUI INSTALL??)
11. Reboot and boot petitboot again
12. You should see now new HDD device on petitboot, /dev /ps3dd .
That's your OtherOS HDD region.
Don't touch any other HDD regions if you don't know what you are doing. Use only ps3dd
device for your Linux installation. Use parted to partition it and create GPT partition
table on ps3dd. GPT is supported by both, Linux and FreeBSD.
Is it easier to install a linux distro on an external HDD and install that... How would I do that and get it to run/boot? on 3.55 CFW ...
how good are you???
